What specific problem are you solving?
In Latin America and the Caribbean, high-quality professional opportunities for young people aged 18–30 are scarce, with youth unemployment rates three times higher than those of adults. Studies indicate that 60% of this population is affected by this issue (CADEF 2024; ILO 2025), largely due to the mismatch between their education and labor market demands. These inequalities disproportionately impact women and vulnerable groups, such as youth from low- and middle-income backgrounds. Additionally, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence risks widening the digital skills gap between those with access to quality education and those without.
Rookie’s Lab addresses these challenges by equipping young professionals with in-demand skills through hands-on, cutting-edge training, empowering them to improve their employability or even launch startups. By offering streamlined, industry-aligned programs, the initiative helps underserved youth compete in an AI-driven economy. With a focus on inclusion, Rookie’s Lab prioritizes women’s participation to actively bridge gender gaps in STEM fields.
What is your solution?
Rookie's Lab is CIDITEL's corporate social responsibility initiative designed to foster professional development for young people across Latin America and the Caribbean. This innovative program goes beyond traditional training by immersing participants in real company projects while equipping them with comprehensive digital skills. The program combines micro-learning with a think tank approach, where participants:
· Develop software solutions for real-world challenges
· Master essential digital tools including email marketing platforms, video/audio editing software, and other productivity technologies
· Incorporate AI applications into their project workflows
· Gain hands-on experience through the complete project lifecycle
Participants collaborate closely with CIDITEL's young professional staff, discussing technical solutions while being encouraged to research innovative approaches. By participating through different project teams, they gain a 360° understanding of digital operations.
A key priority for CIDITEL is creating opportunities for women in STEM while welcoming all motivated youth. The program specifically:
