What specific problem are you solving?
Over 20 million people with disabilities in India—equivalent to the population of Sri Lanka—are unemployed, costing the economy over $112 billion annually. They are also three times more likely to live in poverty. Barriers on the demand side include lack of awareness and a perceived low ROI for hiring persons with disabilities. On the supply side, limited access to resources, confidence, and digital accessibility are major obstacles. Over 96% of online content—textbooks, skill-building platforms, websites, and apps—is inaccessible, excluding people with disabilities from the digital economy. The problem is particularly acute for women and those in rural, low-income, and linguistically diverse regions who face additional barriers like digital illiteracy and limited mobility.
At the same time, over 209 million women in India, including many with disabilities, do not step out of their homes—more than the population of Brazil. Most lack access to flexible, dignified employment. Meanwhile, the digital accessibility market is projected to reach $960 million by 2027, yet marginalized communities remain excluded.
EnhanceAccess bridges these gaps by converting inaccessible documents using AI and employing underserved women and persons with disabilities as human validators. It enables income, builds transferable digital skills, and unlocks long-term mobility and equitable digital participation.
What is your solution?
EnhanceAccess is a hybrid human-AI work platform that creates inclusive employment opportunities while solving the global challenge of inaccessible digital content. Our Accessibility Remediation Portal automatically converts PDFs and other formats into accessible content using AI with ~90% accuracy, and employs women and people with disabilities—particularly those in tier-2/3 cities—as “accessibility remediators” to validate and correct the output. These workers review layout, structure, and content accuracy, using a web-based, mobile-friendly platform that accommodates screen readers and low digital literacy. Tasks are segmented by complexity and allocated based on workers’ skills and bandwidth, enabling flexible, remote work aligned with personal responsibilities. The platform also includes an accessible career discovery agent that uses lived experiences, labor market data, and personalized recommendations to help workers explore prosocial careers and develop transferable skills. With over 1.5 million pages already processed and $100k+ in collective income already distributed through the platform, the platform is now being scaled through a modular portal designed for scale. Thus, EnhanceAccess empowers marginalized workers with dignified income, digital skills, and career visibility while closing the accessibility gap for millions globally.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
EnhanceAccess directly serves women and people with disabilities—especially from tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India - who are systemically excluded from formal workforce participation due to gender, disability, language, caregiving responsibilities, or inaccessible infrastructure. Many of our workers are homemakers, single mothers, blind or low vision individuals, or first-time earners who face compounded social and economic marginalization. EnhanceAccess provides these individuals with dignified income-generation opportunities by offering skill-based, flexible, remote work that requires minimal infrastructure and can be completed on their own time. Our platform enables them to gain experience in a fast-growing digital accessibility sector while also learning transferable skills. Further, through our integrated, voice-supported career discovery agent, workers can explore aligned career paths and educational opportunities based on lived experiences and labor market data. The accessible outputs they help produce in turn benefit over 120k people with print disabilities, by enabling access to educational materials, government services and content, and other information, thanks to partnerships with the Government of India, over 70 nonprofits working for people with disabilities, schools, colleges and corporates that leverage our accessibility services.
