What specific problem are you solving?
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a rapidly growing global health challenge, affecting over 850 million people worldwide. It is projected to become the fifth leading cause of years of life lost by 2040. Despite this scale, CKD remains severely underrecognized in global health priorities. In low- and middle-income countries, more than 90 percent of people with CKD are undiagnosed, and fewer than 50 percent of those who need treatment can access dialysis or kidney transplantation. These disparities are most severe in health systems with limited infrastructure and rising burdens of noncommunicable diseases.
In Thailand, over 12 million people are living with CKD. Annual dialysis costs have exceeded 330 million US dollars and continue to rise. However, the impact goes beyond economic loss. CKD significantly reduces quality of life for patients and places emotional, physical, and financial strain on caregivers and families.
Although nutrition is one of the most effective interventions to slow disease progression, access to renal dietitians is limited and most patients receive no support. NephroNext addresses this urgent gap by providing AI-powered, personalized nutrition and behavior support. Our solution empowers patients to make better daily decisions, improves outcomes, and reduces the long-term burden on families and health systems.
What is your solution?
NephroNext is an AI-powered platform that helps people with chronic kidney disease manage their condition through personalized nutrition and behavior support. The solution is designed to be simple, accessible, and culturally adaptable, especially for patients in settings where access to renal dietitians is limited or unavailable.
Users take a photo of their meal using the mobile app. The platform analyzes the image using AI to identify ingredients, estimate relevant nutritional values, and provide real-time feedback based on the user’s kidney function, lab data, and stage of disease. The system focuses on nutrients that are critical for kidney health and aligns recommendations with local food cultures to ensure that guidance is both practical and personalized.
To support long-term behavior change, NephroNext incorporates gamification and behavioral science. Users earn points for healthy habits and receive encouragement to stay engaged over time. Premium features will offer personalized meal planning, access to healthcare professionals, and future integration with CKD-appropriate food delivery services.
We are currently in the prototype development stage and have received strong interest and positive feedback from nephrologists and public health institutions. NephroNext aims to empower patients, improve outcomes, and reduce the long-term burden of CKD on families and healthcare systems.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
NephroNext serves individuals living with early to moderate stages of chronic kidney disease, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where access to personalized nutrition care is limited. Many of these individuals are newly diagnosed or managing CKD alongside other chronic conditions such as diabetes or hypertension. They often feel overwhelmed by dietary restrictions and receive no professional guidance on how to manage their health through daily decisions.
In Thailand, where over 12 million people live with CKD, access to renal dietitians is extremely limited. Rural and underserved communities are especially affected. Without culturally relevant, practical support, patients and caregivers are left to navigate a complex condition alone.
NephroNext offers an AI-powered platform that provides personalized, accessible nutrition and behavior support. It empowers patients to make informed decisions, improves health outcomes, and reduces caregiver burden. While our initial focus is in Thailand, we are designing NephroNext to be scalable across regions where CKD is rising rapidly and health systems are under strain.
In the future, we aim to expand our reach to individuals at risk for CKD and to the general population seeking to protect their long-term health. Our vision is to support prevention, longevity, and equitable chronic disease care globally.
