What specific problem are you solving?
Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases, over 80 times more effective than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere over a 20-year period. Methane is responsible for roughly 30% of global warming to date. A major source of methane emissions is enteric fermentation, a natural digestive process in cows. As they digest food, they release methane primarily through burping. Reducing methane emissions is one of the fastest and most effective ways to slow climate change in the near term. In East Africa alone, more than 120 million cows emit over 300 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent methane, making livestock a massive and urgent contributor to regional and global warming yet farmers luck the resources to fix this problem.
What is your solution?
NOA'S HERD solves this problem by combining Red Seaweed, a natural methane reducing supplement with livestock monitoring technology to track, verify, and monetise emissions reductions. Our solution integrates Red Seaweed supplements that reduce methane emissions, methane monitoring technology, and SaaS to cut cattle methane emissions by over 80%. Our solution boosts productivity, and gives farmers access to carbon finance and digital tools for better farm management. NOA’S HERD is turning every cow into a climate asset and powering the future of climate-smart agriculture in East Africa.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
NOA’S HERD serves cattle farmers across East Africa—from large commercial ranchers to smallholder dairy farmers organised through cooperatives. These farmers face increasing pressure to improve productivity, meet sustainability standards, and adapt to climate change, yet lack access to tools, data, and financing that can help them do so. How We Impact Their Lives: New Income Streams: We enable farmers to earn annual carbon credit revenue by reducing methane emissions—creating a completely new income source from an existing asset: their cattle. Affordable Sustainability: By subsidising the cost of SeaFeed (a methane-reducing supplement), we help farmers access climate-smart feed that boosts productivity without increasing costs. Digital Inclusion: Our platform digitises records and tracks animal well-being, opening doors to previously inaccessible resources. Market Access: Farmers using NOA’S HERD become part of sustainable value chains, unlocking access to premium markets demanding climate-responsible produce. Climate Resilience: By reducing emissions and improving productivity, farmers become more resilient to climate shocks and better equipped to participate in the global green economy.
