What specific problem are you solving?
Despite policy advances, structural inequalities persist in Kenya’s education system. As of 2024, over 1.13 million primary-aged children (6–13 years) remain out of school, with the Net Enrolment Ratio declining from 92.5% in 2019 to 78.14% in 2022 (UNICEF, MoE). The proposed solution addresses these realities through a solar-powered, offline digital learning ecosystem—tailored for geographies with no internet connectivity, unreliable electricity, and overburdened school systems. It provides culturally relevant, play-based digital content that supports both formal and informal learning environments.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our innovation targets over 10,000 children aged 9–12 across schools and informal learning hubs in Northern Kenya, specifically in counties such as Wajir, Turkana, Isiolo, and Marsabit. These children are among the hardest to reach and most traditionally excluded, many from nomadic pastoralist, refugee, or displacement-affected households. Schooling is frequently disrupted by climate shocks, insecurity, and poverty. In counties like Turkana, children average only 6.5 years of schooling. Girls face heightened risks of early marriage, domestic labour, and dropout due to entrenched gender norms. Children with disabilities—especially those with autism, mental health challenges, or visual impairments—are among the least likely to enroll due to stigma, inaccessible infrastructure, and a lack of trained facilitators. In Wajir county, the proximity to conflict-prone areas (e.g., Somalia) makes children vulnerable to security risks, limiting humanitarian and government outreach (UNHCR, 2021).
