What specific problem are you solving?
Video-based learning has become the most accessible way for adult learners to acquire future job skills such as coding. Videos empower asynchronous, self-paced learning, leveling education for disadvantaged learners globally. However, completion rates are alarmingly low. Video courses, despite their accessibility, function like one-sided monologues. Unlike text, videos are inscrutable "black boxes" that resist meaningful interaction. Learners can't easily clarify confusing concepts, ask questions, or receive personalised guidance. This one-way flow of information creates a passive learning experience, leading to disengagement and, ultimately, course abandonment. The result? Alarmingly low completion rates for video-based courses:
1. Only 3-6% finish major MOOC courses
2. 15% average completion for online courses
3. 25-30% completion in corporate training
This problem of disengagement leading to abandoned courses affects both learners and tech-upskilling content creators/platform. It's becoming increasingly difficult for disadvantaged learners to acquire the skills for the jobs of their dreams, while tech-upskilling content creators/platform are losing their customers.
Stackoverflow used to be the go-to platform, but the time it takes to get an answer is unpredictable. ChatGPT is being by student used but its answers to questions for most learners are unsatisfactory because it doesn't have the context of their course-content.
What is your solution?
ChatPye enables every tech-upskilling content creator/platform to add our learning assistant
chatbot to their video-based courses within minutes. Our chatbot, leveraging video-understanding algorithms, enables learners to get instant, contextual, more accurate answers to their questions on the course, and thereby we drive course completion rates enabling the learners to quickly acquire the skills they need for their jobs, and platforms to significantly boost learner engagement and retention, ultimately increasing revenue and enhancing their brand reputation as a leader in effective tech education.
We interviewed and gave early prototypes of our solution to three tech-upskilling educational institutions and content creators in coding, cybersecurity, and data analysis so their students can get answers to the questions to deepen students understanding, improve engagement and competency. Our analysis showed that our chatbot was able to provide contextual answers to questions based on the video content around 80% of the time. We are now looking to improve accuracy of its responses. As one of the lecturer/creators mentioned, "ChatPye handles routine questions with my video lectures, letting me focus on deeper conceptual discussions during office hours.
