What specific problem are you solving?
We are solving the problem of digital exclusion and economic displacement among older adults, especially as AI rapidly transforms the workforce and daily life.
In the United States alone, more than 10,000 people turn 65 every day. Yet older adults remain significantly underrepresented in technology training and workforce development programs. Globally, the World Health Organization reports that one in six people will be 60 or older by 2030, and many face limited access to technology, digital skills, and meaningful opportunities to stay socially and economically engaged.
At the same time, AI is changing how we work, live, and care for others. But seniors are rarely included in designing or using these tools, despite having valuable insight into aging and caregiving.
The result is a growing divide where an entire generation is being left out of innovation, even as their experience is more needed than ever.
InterGen Innovators addresses this by helping older adults learn practical AI tools so they can participate in the digital economy, reconnect with purpose, and contribute to the future of caregiving and healthy aging.
What is your solution?
InterGen Innovators is a six week hands-on training program that teaches older adults and college students how to use artificial intelligence tools together. The program makes AI learning simple, practical, and meaningful for people who may have little or no experience with technology.
Participants are matched in intergenerational pairs and meet weekly through online workshops. They explore tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and Gemini to learn how to write prompts, create helpful AI assistants, and build projects that address real challenges related to aging and caregiving.
They also learn how to create images using tools like Canva, ChatGPT’s image generator, and other easy to use platforms.
Each pair creates a project that is presented at a final hackathon. Participants can earn internship opportunities and continue working with mentors after the program ends.
Our solution gives older adults the tools and support they need to reenter the modern workforce, stay socially connected, and build confidence in using new technology.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution serves older adults who want to keep learning, stay connected, and feel useful in a world that is changing fast. Many are retired or between jobs, and while they have decades of experience, they are often left out when it comes to learning new technology. Most tech programs do not include or focus on this age group, and many older adults feel unsure or even intimidated by tools like artificial intelligence.
We also serve college students who are curious about AI and want to apply what they learn in meaningful ways. They often do not get the chance to collaborate with people from a different generation.
InterGen Innovators brings both groups together. Older adults learn how to use AI tools in a supportive and welcoming space. They gain confidence and a sense of purpose. Students learn how to work across generations and see the value of real lived experience.
The result is stronger communities, new friendships, and a new kind of workforce training that is rooted in inclusion, creativity, and shared learning.
