What specific problem are you solving?
Net Tribe Carbon addresses the dual challenges of limited transparency in carbon credit markets and inadequate financing for electric mobility (e-mobility) in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite the potential of carbon markets to support climate action, structural barriers have limited returns for least developed countries (LDCs), with the market value of carbon credits from LDCs being about $403 million in 2023 far below the $1 trillion needed annually to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 . The high upfront costs of electric vehicles (EVs) and limited financing options hinder the adoption of e-mobility solutions, which are crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality
By leveraging blockchain and IoT technologies, Net Tribe Carbon provides a transparent platform for tracking and trading carbon credits, ensuring that the benefits reach local communities and support sustainable development. Furthermore, by facilitating access to financing for electric motorcycles, the solution promotes the adoption of clean transportation options, contributing to climate goals and economic empowerment in the region.
What is your solution?
At Yna Kenya, we are addressing the problem of limited access to sustainable mobility and clean energy in underserved rural communities, particularly among low-income women and youth in Kenya. The lack of affordable, eco-friendly transport and energy solutions significantly hampers economic opportunities, with many relying on costly, polluting motorcycles and lacking access to reliable electricity.
Globally, over 1.2 billion people live without electricity, with rural Africa accounting for 70% of this population. In Kenya, the informal sector and rural transport are largely reliant on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, contributing to air pollution and carbon emissions. Additionally, low-income women often face barriers to employment due to limited access to transport and skills training.
Our solution empowers these communities by offering affordable, zero-emission electric motorcycles, solar-powered battery swap stations, and off-grid energy solutions. We are also creating economic opportunities by training women riders, thereby addressing gender inequality. With over 120 women trained and onboarded, and 576 tons of CO2 saved so far, we aim to expand this impact, addressing both local and global climate and economic challenges.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Net Tribe Carbon serves underserved communities in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly informal motorcycle taxi (boda boda) operators, women riders and entrepreneurs, and youth in peri-urban and rural areas. These groups often face barriers such as limited access to affordable electric vehicles, lack of financing options, and exclusion from the benefits of carbon credit markets.
By integrating Internet of Things (IoT) devices into electric motorcycles, Net Tribe Carbon enables real-time tracking of emissions reductions. Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms process this data to accurately calculate carbon offsets, which are then tokenized on a blockchain platform. This system not only provides transparency and security in carbon credit transactions but also opens up new revenue streams for riders and communities.
Furthermore, the platform facilitates decentralized financing, allowing investors to fund electric vehicle adoption and receive verifiable carbon credits in return. This approach promotes the use of clean transportation, improves air quality, and ensures that the economic benefits of carbon trading reach local communities. By addressing both environmental and economic challenges, Net Tribe Carbon empowers marginalized populations and supports sustainable development in the region.
