What specific problem are you solving?
In the rural village of Nganda, Senegal, FOHSEN trains community health workers to deliver essential healthcare where access to doctors is limited. These workers are trusted leaders—providing health education, maternal and child care, nutrition guidance, chronic disease monitoring, and referrals to clinics when needed. However, the high cost of transportation, accommodations, and printed materials makes it difficult to sustain and expand high-quality training. Without regular support, community health workers risk falling behind as new health challenges emerge. FOHSEN is solving this by digitizing training, lowering costs, and ensuring every frontline worker stays equipped to deliver life-saving care at the last mile.
What is your solution?
Our solution is a user-centered mobile platform designed with—and for—community health workers in rural Senegal. Today, delivering in-person training is expensive and logistically difficult. We're changing that by putting practical, relevant training in the hands of health workers—anytime, anywhere.
This isn't just another e-learning app. We're co-creating a tool that reflects the daily challenges these workers face. The platform offers short lessons, videos, and real-world case scenarios—all designed to work offline and in local languages for better accessibility. Whether someone is supporting a new mother or managing a diabetes case, they’ll have the guidance they need at their fingertips.
We know the barriers: spotty internet, language gaps, limited time. That’s why everything—from the design to the delivery—is grounded in their reality.
The impact? More confident, better-trained health workers. Stronger, community-driven healthcare. And a scalable model that could reach frontline workers across Senegal and beyond.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution supports three groups: community health workers (CHWs), the rural communities they serve, and the local health posts that depend on them. CHWs are often the first—and sometimes only—link to healthcare in remote areas, yet they rarely receive the training or support they need to succeed.
We’re building a digital training platform that meets CHWs where they are. It delivers offline, culturally relevant content in local languages, allowing them to keep learning between rare in-person trainings. From maternal care to chronic disease management, CHWs will be able to access clear, practical lessons on their phones—anytime.
The impact goes beyond the individual: stronger referrals, earlier diagnoses, and more consistent care at the community level. Health posts get much-needed support, and patients get trusted guidance closer to home.
This is about more than training—it’s about investing in frontline workers, building trust, and creating a health system that works from the ground up.
