Preeti Nigam Joshi
TrackMed is a digital data-driven traceability platform designed to enhance antibiotic quality-assurance and stock visibility across last-mile healthcare settings in LMICs. Our solution is based on providing unique-identification to each-pack of medicine manufactured at a plant and track unique identity (in form of QR code, generated using global standard for 2D coding) in the supply chain from plant to warehouse...

What specific problem are you solving?
Substandard and falsified (SF) antibiotics pose a significant health and economic burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), contributing to ineffective treatment, rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and preventable deaths. WHO estimates that 1 in 10 medical products in LMICs is substandard or falsified with India being a significant source for global medicine supply. The prevalence of counterfeit medicines in India is a significant concern, with estimates ranging from 5% to as high as 25% of the total medicine market. The Indian government's estimates place the figure at 5% counterfeit and 0.3% spurious. This issue is especially acute at the community level—pharmacies, rural clinics, informal vendors—where over 70% of antibiotics are consumed, yet regulatory oversight and digital tracking systems are minimal or non-existent. Alongside quality concerns, poor stock control leads to frequent shortages, overstocking, or expired antibiotics, which further compromises care and promotes irrational antibiotic use. In countries across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, these dual challenges affect millions annually, particularly vulnerable populations such as children under five.
What is your solution?
TrackMed is a digital data-driven traceability platform designed to enhance antibiotic quality-assurance and stock visibility across last-mile healthcare settings in LMICs. Our solution is based on providing unique-identification to each-pack of medicine manufactured at a plant and track unique identity (in form of QR code, generated using global standard for 2D coding) in the supply chain from plant to warehouse to wholesaler to distributor to retailer and community health workers, informal outlets—where regulatory oversight is often limited. With TrackMed, end users are able to find the authenticity of the product by simply scanning the unique code using a simple phone and also the real time stocks with retailers can be verified, expiration alerts can be generated This data is aggregated on a secure cloud-based-dashboard with national drug registries or procurement databases, providing real-time-analytics, actionable insights on medicine origin, batch validity, geographic distribution patterns, and stock levels. TrackMeds supports both online and offline modes, making it resilient in low-connectivity areas. Integration with geotagging, time-stamped logs strengthens surveillance against substandard and falsified-antibiotics. By aggregating decentralized, community-sourced data, TrackMed supports better regulatory-oversight, reduces inappropriate-antibiotic use, and empowers community-workers with real-time decision-making tools—ensuring that antibiotics reaching patients are safe, effective, and traceable.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution serves multiple stakeholders across the medicine supply chain, but the most important are the millions of people in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) who are at high risk of receiving substandard or spurious antibiotics. In India alone, out of a population of 1.4 billion, nearly 800 million people belong to the low-income bracket—making them highly vulnerable to poor-quality medicines due to lack of access, awareness, and regulatory oversight. Globally, this figure climbs to over 5 billion people who face similar risks. Another key stakeholder is the government and public health systems, which invest heavily in providing medicines to the population. Despite these efforts, without a proper mechanism to ensure quality and traceability, these medicines often fail to reach people in the form intended—leading to treatment failures, increased antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and avoidable loss of life. If our solution can prevent even a fraction of this, it could mean millions of lives saved annually. TrackMed is not just about technology—it’s about restoring trust in healthcare, supporting government accountability, and ensuring that every person, regardless of income, receives the quality of care they deserve.
