What specific problem are you solving?
Livestock methane emissions are one of the largest and most immediate contributors to climate change, accounting for approximately 32% of anthropogenic methane emissions globally. Methane has more than 80 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide over a 20-year period, making rapid reduction critical for avoiding near-term climate instability.
At the same time, livestock producers face increasing pressure from rising feed costs, antibiotic resistance concerns, consumer scrutiny, and climate volatility. Many existing methane mitigation technologies are expensive, difficult to deploy at scale, or fail to provide direct operational benefits to producers.
Our work focuses on addressing these interconnected challenges through scalable, ocean-based agricultural innovation. Symbrosia cultivates Asparagopsis taxiformis, a native red seaweed that naturally reduces enteric methane emissions when added in very small amounts to cattle feed. Beyond emissions reductions, studies have shown improvements in feed conversion efficiency, animal productivity, and overall system sustainability.
Globally, over 1.5 billion cattle contribute to methane emissions, impacting communities through climate-related droughts, food insecurity, and environmental degradation. By creating regenerative seaweed cultivation systems and livestock feed solutions, we aim to support both climate resilience and agricultural profitability at scale.

Symbrosia produces ocean-grown red seaweed feed additives designed to reduce methane emissions from cattle while improving livestock productivity and agricultural resilience.
Our core ingredient, Asparagopsis taxiformis, contains naturally occurring bioactive compounds that inhibit methane formation in the rumen during digestion. When incorporated into feed at low inclusion rates, SeaGraze® products can significantly reduce enteric methane emissions while supporting feed efficiency and animal performance.
We cultivate the seaweed through land-based aquaculture systems in Hawaiʻi using regenerative ocean farming principles. The biomass is processed into multiple product formats, including dried feed additives and SeaGraze® Oil, allowing flexible integration across different livestock operations.
Our solution combines biotechnology, aquaculture, and agricultural implementation into one scalable platform. In addition to product deployment, Symbrosia supports monitoring, reporting, and verification systems that help producers and supply chain partners quantify environmental outcomes.
Unlike many climate technologies that increase operational complexity for farmers, our model is designed to align environmental impact with producer economics.
