What specific problem are you solving?
85% of brain development happens before age 6. Yet, 250 million children globally lack access to early stimulation and pre-primary education, with 60 million in India alone. These vulnerable children enter school already behind and with impeded IQs. If you’re a 10-year-old in India, you have a 3 in 5 chance of leaving school without basic literacy and numeracy skills. This outcome is unacceptable when there is a proven solution. Global and Indian evidence shows that high-quality, structured early childhood education (ECE) for Preschoolers (three- to six-year-olds) can significantly improve life and learning outcomes, even increasing IQ, yielding benefits that persist and compound over time.
Momentum is brewing: India’s new National Education Policy (2020) spotlighted ECE for the first time, creating a nation-wide push for early learning. We are uniquely positioned to make meaningful impact. In May 2023, when the government announced its first modern ECE policy—supported by Rocket Learning as primary expert partners—it allocated an additional USD 150 million to Anganwadis (network of government daycares, known as AWCs). Early childhood policies had historically centered only on nutrition, but the new policy, “Poshan Bhi, Padhai Bhi” (Not Just Nutrition, But Education Too) envisions Anganwadis as vibrant centers of early learning.
What is your solution?
Our solution strengthens the Anganwadi system through a hybrid online-offline model of coaching and motivating frontline Anganwadi teachers and parents to engage effectively with young children.
Rocket Learning’s behavioral change platform leverages Whatsapp groups to mobilize vibrant digital communities of parents and teachers. Every day on these groups, our technology sends teachers contextualized content in the local language that they can use to conduct play-based activities with their children, at home and in the classroom. These activities take less than 20 minutes and use readily available, free materials. A key aspect is inviting educators to send back photos and videos on the groups to create peer accountability and social ‘pull’.
Rocket Learning also uses real-time data and AI to build continuous motivation through virtual “report cards” and behavioral nudges, based on how often stakeholders respond on the groups. Digital interactions are accompanied with offline engagement through regular parent-teacher meetups termed “choupals,” quarterly in-person trainings to upskill frontline workers on ECE, and targeted calls. This combines with inspiration from community and teacher influencers, both online and offline, to ensure sustained engagement.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Imagine a world where every child has what they need to learn, regardless of where they're born.
Kavya’s turned 4 and lives in a village in Haryana. Her parents aren't literate, but they want her to have a real education. They send her to the Anganwadi daily, hoping it provides what they cannot.
What they don't know is that Meena, the Anganwadi ‘Didi’ teaching Kavya, has never been trained to teach. She's considered a "porridge lady," valued only for providing meals. But Meena wants more. She wants to be recognized as an educator, shaping young minds.
Kavya's situation is the default for 60 million children in India enrolled annually in 1.4 million Anganwadis. Committed caregivers exist everywhere. They're just unsupported.
Rocket Learning intervenes during the critical window from birth to age six. We equip Meena and Kavya's parents with real-life, science-backed activities tailored to Kavya's developmental needs, and delivered on WhatsApp, which families already use daily. The activities are bite-sized and easy-to-understand.
Now Kavya learns at school and home, and by age six, becomes a joyous, confident learner.
And when a generation of children like Kavya across India and the Global South start primary school ready, it changes everything.
