Catalyst

The major problems I want to focus are-

• High rate of unemployment
• Use of high volume of chemicals  in fruits and vegetables
• Long market chain
• Reducing cultivable land

I want to solve this major problems through market system development approach. I will provide technical guidance to young people who want to take agriculture as a profession about organic farming. And  lease unused land from different household to use as a garden. And through organic farming and best technology will produce vegetables and fruits. And will sell this to directly to consumer through an online platform. 

In this way a huge amount of unused land will be used as a cultivable land. A large number of young people can involve in agriculture and it will reduce the unemployment rate. Young people can be self dependent. Market chain will be shifted to directly producer to consumer. Life will be changed. 

According to a research from World Bank in 2017, more than 50% young people remain unemployed in Bangladesh. This young people are not able to add value to their socioeconomic status. Other problems arise for this unemployment. 

The amount of cultivable land is decreasing due to high level of industrialization and over population. High volume of chemicals are used in vegetables and fruits. It causes many harm to consumer. At the same time market chain is very long and farmer get poor price for the product and consumers are buying in high price. Still Farmers are using traditional agricultural technology causes the poor yield. 

Theses problems are creating great harm to the system. Multi dimensional people are affecting for that. My intervention can work as a systemic change and work as a solution to solve these multi dimensional problem. 

I am serving three groups. Firstly the unemployed young people who can take farming as a profession. By involving in the idea they can directly sells goods and also can be involved to produce organic fertilizers. 

The second group is land lord or household who has unused lands. They can earn by renting their land. 

Third groups are general consumer who are struggling to buy fresh foods. Get chemical mixed goods. 

I want to involve these young people to promote organic farming in the country. Organic farming is not familiar in the country. This young people will receive technical skilled based training on organic farming. And as a facilitator we will approach to different household to use their unused land near their home. The household will earn money by providing the land for organic farming purpose. The produced fruit and vegetables will be sold through an online platform and will be sold to directly to the consumer. In this way the young people will earn money. Unused land will be used. Consumer will get chemical free fresh vegetables and fruits. So the full system will be impacted.  

My solution does not contain any new technology or materials. I am using existing technology to make the change. So it can be said that it is kind of incremental innovation. Engaging youth in agriculture is a common thing but engaging them in organic farming by using unusable land is something new for the country. And this products will be sold directly to the consumer which is the shortest market chain in the country. And this innovation alone can solve multi dimensional problem in the community. So as an approach and business model this is a new concept and has much more potential to make the change in the country. 

I want to explain this as a result framework. How my idea will change through my intervention. 

Activity 1 - Train young people in organic farming and facilitate them in farming business

Activity 2- Lease unused land from households and connect young farmers with them

Activity 3- Create an online selling platform and delivery fleet to reach the goods to consumer

Result of Activities - Young people are generating income , Unused lands are being used, Consumers are getting fresh foods

Impact- Less unemployment, More cultivable lands and chemical free fresh foods for people of Bangladesh
