Using Athletics to Impart other life Skills.
- Pre-Seed
As an Open Education consultant,I am committed in significantly using sport as a tool to impart other life skills training to disadvantaged youths in Cameroon communities, who are school dropped outs and are deviance and engaged in cyber crime. They need the right direction, and it will only come from people like us.
I am a community activist specialist in Cameroon and an online Open Education consultant committed to significantly use athletics as a tool to impart other life skills training to young people in my community in a sustainable way there by impacting the lives of disadvantaged youths. This has been the motivation behind my development engagements in Cameroon disadvantaged communities.Through my organization called Humanitarian Association of Dynamic Youths (HADY) based in Buea Cameroon. We have collaborated with young professionals like; IT consultants ,bloggers, web developers, soft ware engineers who are passionate to passing on these skills to over 900+young people through shared dreams and visions. I look forward expanding our community sports club to primary and secondary schools through other stakeholders in the community who are passionate on this same issue. These sports clubs will be used as a tool to impart young people with online Open Education,Access and Data.I will organize seminars in schools to tutor and mentor at least one teacher from each class in each school who will manage these clubs and pass on this online knowledge to other students in a sustainable way. There are about 1.8 billion young people globally in the ages of 10 to 24 ,with many of them concentrated in developing countries and the largest youth population ever, coupled with the fact that some of our teachers in these communities have inadequate knowledge on the online education system. The objective is introducing online learning to youths, and some teachers in the Cameroon communities, there by eradicating technophobia and improving online learning. I think if this is well implemented a greater impact will be felt in Cameroon communities,Africa and the world.I look forward in sharing my idea in person with other participants and stakeholders, while learning from them as well.
One of the main challenge youths are facing at the moment is inability to adapt in the current technology demands ,and grow independently in their endeavors. We want to ensure most youths in Cameroon communities understand how to create, innovate, advertise, sell, buy using the online platform for their professional purposes. The online community is so vast for employment opportunities. We look forward to a generation where young people will use the online system for development purposes and not cyber crime .We want to see young people coming up with innovative ideas through online research to contribute knowledge in the online global community.
Currently, the world’s youth population stands at 1.8billion,with a majority concentration in the developing countries. This has called for great concern. During my years in community assessment and outreach counsel,I have realized through observation and interviews that four out of five young people dream, think and want to be an entrepreneur, civic society manager and an advocate for a course. Only one out of this five is already implementing because of limited skills and coaching as they explained. This is the reason why many young men around my community are passionate and already learning through this skillful program like ours.
Five years until now we have imparted over 900+ disadvantaged youths from 20 communities with other life skills. We are targeting young people of ages 8 to 15 because we think this is the foundation. Our overall goal is to have trained 1800 young people by the year 2022. For this reason we believe training two or three teachers from each class in each school, and community will go a long way as this trained teachers and young people will carry the same knowledge to their various schools and communities to replicate the same skill set to others .
Through our manual and online registration form. - Imparted 900+ youths with other life skills
Through our open monthly open door interview and coaching. - 7 young people are now university students and graduates embarking on a community development course

Young people today are always connected to their social network and will need little motivation to get them engaged with social media in the classroom. The ways one can use teaching methods are quite varied as there are hundreds of social network. There is an array of free online learning tools available which we hope to use to encourage engagement ,participation and a sense of fun into the classroom. We will create an interactive and dynamic classroom using examples ,online quizzes to test students knowledge. This online learning makes the whole learning unique in its form and content, especially in the Cameroon communities.
Young people today are committed in using technology independently for interaction, but some are unable to get one for themselves, especially for learning and interacting with friends, and the rest of the world. We believe they can learn best on their own through independently using their own technology tool in learning, communicating, and interacting with friends and the rest of the world. This is why we are making sure each child is entitled with his or her own tool for independent study. We will create an online platform where everyone will be included and communicate together for learning purposes and fun.
Over the years we have used community needs assessment and outreach counsel strategy through observation and interview to bring young people from different communities to study as a family. We carry out a door to door survey to collect data that will later on be assessed for admission of participants. We also do a local radio and t.v announcement, and distribute flyers to inform parents and communities about our program in time. Also we have established a continuous online platform on social media to direct families on how to access our program. This program has been running for free without any fee.

Over the years we have established very strong and trust worthy network and relationship with the local communities and international volunteers through the local councils .Through these communities, their chiefs, and international volunteers (America Peace Corps and others) we have gained continuous assistance, financially, materially, and consultancy. Also through our income generating activity in sustainable tourism,we have been able to put in 40% of our profit back to the community projects annually. 20% goes to our “Back to School Project” and another 20% goes to our “Sports for Development and Peace Project”We are looking forward to introducing an affordable fee of 2$ for each child,to help assist this program’s sustainability. We just established on online fundraising platform through YouCaring, that has helped to assist our program financially. We think joining a robust platform like Solve community will add to this programs progress and already created network and relationship.
We need technology tools like computers and projectors for independent learning and to teach these children. We also need a bigger space to accommodate a reasonable number of children.Right now we can only accommodate 25 per class. There is limited sports equipment,in basketball and table tennis. We also need to grow our network as wide as possible through international conferences and workshops. We believe with a hug and robust network of problem solvers in Solve, who are enthusiastic and understands the vision and direction of the current and future development trend ,we can best learn and grow along side their ideas and knowledge.

Solve is a game changing and a robust platform of diverse ideas from different global perspectives.I believe learning and development can only get better when we meet and dialogue on such platforms.I want to grow and understand more about global technology and how it is used for development. And Solve is one of those platforms that is rich on such resource.Looking at the sustainable development goals projected for 2030,and the 1.8billion youths in the world,I decided to embark on such platform to add to my skills to be able to address some of this issues using the right tool.
Our partners are parents of the children we are imparting, the local councils and other community base organizations, like Pro-Climate International,International Center for Environmental Education and Community Development(ICENECDEV) Also we have international volunteers and the 20 out of 41 communities we are already working with.
We have mainly collaborators and competitors in our income generating activity in tourism.
