Pitch your solution.

Teenagers and the LGBTQIA community are unable to form positive relationships with one another. PRT has categorized young people and their relationships, or lack of, into three aspects:

The Stunted Ones--- How people without any close relationships become unable to form bonds and how this impacts them later in life.

The Ones That Are Fracturing--- How to deal with stress and isolation and overcoming; from breaking point to becoming healthy to form bonds again.

The Ones that are Healthy and Growing--- those ready to overcome the challenges their lives present.

PRT works to break down the inner psychological barriers that prevent the actualization of each individual young woman. A kind of Martial Arts for the Mind to empower inner strength, so young women are able to connect with each other, the world, and to learning. Help young women realize the disconnection and how to heal it.

What specific problem are you solving?

Debilitative stress in teenage girls and the LGBTQIA community is leading to psychological disconnection and isolation-- narrowing their world. This causes a decrease in memory and attention span and loss of self-confidence, reducing their ability to communicate and process information. This results in the inability to form strong relationships with empathy and understanding. This creates conflicts, loss of self-identity, and an inability to be self-sufficient economically. Worse, this stress prevents girls forming their own ideas, making girls unable to choose a life for themself and choose good relationships.

Detachment with oneself and others, the inability to form strong relationtionships, leads to psychological isolation and suicide. 78% of suicides happen in countries with low to middle income. Suicide is the number two reason of death (ages 15 to 29). In Africa “suicide planning” affects one in four teenagers. (Zambia: 2 of 5 teenagers have a suicide plan). In Samoa, three of five adolescents have attempted suicide.

Many times in many developing countries teenagers are unable to seek help if they need it. "And as girls are twice as likely as boys to experience depression, there needs to be a special focus on girls."  The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health (2019)

What is your solution?

Protecting the Relationships of Tomorrow (PRT) helps teenage girls and the LGBTQIA community recognize stress and understand the impact of it, so they comprehend the importance that stress can have on one’s life. We are creating a platform that educates girls and helps them connect with other girls a bridge of communication to help each other with life issues. We will first connect girls with each other at the local level, but then branch out to girls in different countries and provide them with a platform (web site + Discord) that is safe and protected so they can discuss their issues and form relationships with other people around the world. These girls will be able to meet every week to talk about the impact of what they are dealing with and other girls will help by listening to them and giving them their own opinions and ways to deal with the issue. We are essentially creating an online support system for adolescent girls and the LGBTQ community, and providing technology if needed by fundraising.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

There are 7.2 billion people in the world and out of that there 1.2 billion kids from ages 10 to 19.

And too many of these adolescents are at risk. There are 3,000 adolescents that are dying each day mostly from causes that could have been prevented. The third leading cause of death between 15 to 19 year olds is self harm.

PRT is trying to help young girls and the LGBTQIA community in different countries who do not have enough resources to reach out to other peers and ask for help. Creating this platform will allow girls to connect to one another and discuss their problems so they do not feel alone. This will decrease the feeling of loneliness in girls leading to reduced depression rates. Also, exchanging ideas will let the girls see things from a different point of view and will help expand their understanding of the world. Talking to others and understanding their point of view will help girls form their own identities and begin to fight for their own future.

Which dimension of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?
  • Promote gender-inclusive and gender-responsive education for everyone, including gender non-binary and transgender learners
Explain how the problem, your solution, and your solution’s target population relate to the Challenge and your selected dimension.

Protecting the Relationships of Tomorrow (PRT) is creating a safe space for girls and the LGBTQIA community to gain confidence helping them learn and understand concepts better. This confidence allows them to ask questions and reach out for help. Our social network will help girls see others' way of thinking, eventually expanding their own. This will allow girls to comprehend information and improve their learning, their community, and their chances for a dignified future.
