EMIIS
Poor handling of disease threats. A typical example is Nigeria a country with estimated population of 200 Million with current cumulative covid19 encounters as at 1June 2020 placed at a little over 10,000 mark due to minimal testing abilities. Unfortunately each state can only boast of not more than 5 fully to semi furnished health facilities. Each hospital however has a maximum bed capacity of 300 beds dedicated and approved by NCDC to fight this unforgiving killer that has made a mess of healthcare systems of greater and advanced countries like America, Germany, Italy, France, Russia etc. EMIIS provides information intelligence ridding on the back of the internet to effectively identify a patient, carry out electronic archival of documentation, document symptoms and confirmation of covid19 and other diseases in globally accepted format, share data with contact tracers, policy makers. Real-time stock pile management is also possible for States
We proffer solution to the Health security & pandemics challenge. The covid19 and other infectious diseases have proven to the world that an outbreak on any part of the globe is a threat to all thus requiring collaborative efforts in combat strategy. Unfortunately the dream to fight with this synergy is often marred when policy makers lack cutting edge and standardized real-time data to classify, track and research. In Nigeria with estimated population of 200Million, the current cumulative covid19 encounters as at 1June 2020 stands at a little over 10,000 mark due to minimal testing abilities. Unfortunately for this West African giant, while this figure increases by at least 5% daily, each state can only boast of not more than 5 fully to semi furnished health facilities. Each hospital however has a maximum bed capacity of 300 beds dedicated and approved by NCDC to fight this unforgiving killer that has made a mess of healthcare systems of greater and advanced countries like America, Germany, Italy, France, Russia etc.Today, Nigeria is data rich but information poor, as a result of the fact that not much can be made out of the existing data trapped within the manual system
EMIIS is a hospital web application which can be deployed at the HMB (Health Management Board) of state while clients subscribe monthly at affordable fee for service. It has the necessary information intelligence ridding on the back of the internet to effectively identify a patient, carry out electronic archival of clinical information from care centers (private, primary healthcare and other hospitals within the state)e.g. symptoms and confirmation of covid19 and other diseases in standardized and globally accepted format ICD10 & ICD10PCS, patient’s transport and social contact histories, share data with contact tracers, policy makers and help in possible allergy detection before drug administration. Furthermore, EMIIS can help state and federal to know current stock pile of medical asset at respective hospitals and storage centers at real-time thus knowing what type of intervention is required by dedicated front line strike force. EMIIS Health Information Management module does automatic indexing of disease burden at a click of a button analyzing data pool and showing snapshot of respective disease encounters by age range distribution of patients. This is a sharp contrast to what is a tradition in manual approach which would require a duration running into weeks to arrive at clinical answers
For years, there have been dedicated efforts to promote and strengthen bio-surveillance capabilities in Nigeria, but these efforts have always been met with stiff challenges thereby making it difficult to prevent these ever-emerging threats. The lack of a viable electronically backed disease surveillance system in Nigeria has made it very difficult for government and health related agencies to contain covid19 and other diseases. Today, Nigeria is data rich but information poor, as a result of the fact that not much can be made out of the existing data trapped within the manual system and also in individual health facilities. Right now the government is relying on the traditional health systems which have been long overdue in the fight against (COVID-19), a system that lacks the ability to accurately facilitate collection, analysis and retrieval of data thus making it difficult to provide the government with real-time situational information.
For hospitals or related centers with minimal IT centric staff, our strategy is to setup data center at state HMB (Health Management Board). This would allow hospitals within the state to pump data via the internet seamlessly at real-time. States can then replicate such harmonized data.
The fight against Covid19 and other diseases is the present greatest challenge of all countries. This disease is highly contagious, invisible yet desperate to destroy lives and economies thus require comprehensive and collective action plan as no one can be left behind. Furthermore, it is imperative that health data from any part of the word is free from ambiguities as the development of drugs, care plan and other medical essentials must be tailored to the present realities. EMIIS provides necessary information thus making the best use of time, skills and other resources under a fair and equitable distribution strategy.
