Bossygrl

Bossygrl is a mobile starter kit for young female entrepreneurs, enabling them to create and grow real ecommerce businesses globally, via their phones. Their products are available via their web stores and are manufactured and shipped on demand requiring zero up front expense; all supported by in-app coaching and community.

In 2016, 5,839 male founded companies vs. 359 female founded firms were VC financed, representing $58.2 bn for the men vs. a relatively paltry $1.46bn for the women. This is a two sided problem. Side A is the sad state of investment dollars that currently flow through to female entrepreneurs. Side B is the supply side of that equation: the too narrow pipeline of qualified and confident women who are prepared to launch successful companies.  

Bossygrl focuses on Side B: unleash to market not just a pipeline, but a tsunami of remarkably qualified young female entrepreneurs.

Several factors result in too few female entrepreneurs. Firstly, socialization: research demonstrates kids under the age of 6 choose their own genders when asked "who is smarter" -- but at age 6, girls choose men. Additionally, girls are socialized to "check every box" to feel qualified vs. boys who are confident that they can "wing it."  

Secondly, we know that women are judged on what they have actually done, and men on their potential (source: McKinsey and Catalyst.)

Enabling women to become entrepreneurs when young -- before anyone tells them they can't -- will help level the playing field.
