The lack of schools with modern ICT infrastructure prevents students and teachers from improving their education limiting them in their social and economic development.

In Nigeria most school do not have computers, Internet connections or Electricity and so students are unable to practice learning of ICT, most  students leave secondary/primary school without skills, they are unable to compete in the job-market they face an uncertain future. With reference to the recent pandemic it became difficult for student to adapt to the new online teaching. 

Peddle ilab is a 21st century mobile and digital class room on a bicycle. This technology affords students  from the poorest households, rural and lower income communities to instantly convert already existing space at home or in school into digital classrooms for learning . 

we believe our solution will positively change lives by granting every student  the affordability to learn ICT in all levels and environment

What specific problem are you solving?

Many schools in rural/urban communities of Nigeria do not have functioning ICT labs and so the students are unable to practice. this resulted to mass failure in ICT examinations. In Nigeria each year 1.5 million students seat for computer based test Examinations about 60% of them fail due to the lack of computers skill during their high school while 10,000 plus leave school without skills. After a careful need assessment it was observe most children affected are from low-income-family.

According to a new joint report from UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union(ITU).1st December 2020 says two thirds of the world’s school-age children or 1.3billion children aged 3-17 years old  do not have internet connection and digital access in their homes and schools, a similar lack of access among young people aged 15-24 years old, with 759 million or 63% unconnected at home. Lack of connectivity doesn’t just limit children and young people’s ability to connect online. It prevents them from competing in the modern economy and isolates them from the world. And in the event of school closures, such as one currently experienced by millions due to COVID-19, it causes them to lose out on education.

Peddle ilab is a 21st century mobile and digital class room on a bicycle, it is inspired by virtual computing, virtual study platform and mobile based minicomputers.

This technology affords students  from the poorest households, rural and lower income communities to instantly convert already existing space at home or in school into digital classrooms for learning . 

the web based computers are hosted on a regional (local offline) and web savers giving users the affordability to log into any computer and access all the features and files of their personal virtual computer, Peddle ilab generates electricity for charging of the system during  a cycle ride by a dynamo Generator attached to the bicycle wheels and solar panels, a single unit contains over forty (40) mini computers simultaneously, the system is built with a mobile communication for navigation and directional purpose. on delivery to schools and registered students at stipulated times made for studying , within five minutes an already existing space at home or in a school  located in a community  lacking reliable or zero source of power is  converted into a computer lab or digital class room for learning.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

Youth are Africa’s greatest asset. Africa’s youth population is rapidly growing and expected to double to over 830 million by 2050. 70% of them live in low and underserved communities and do not have stable economic opportunities, nearly 420 million youth aged 15-35, one-third are unemployed, it is estimated that ICT will create 2 million jobs in Africa over the next 5 years, with additional online opportunities, but The lack of schools with modern ICT infrastructure Prevents students and teachers from improving their education, they are limited in their social and economic development. Many schools in rural and underserved communities of Nigeria do not have computers, Internet connections or Electricity and so the students are unable to practice must students leave secondary school without skills, With reference to the recent pandemic it became difficult for student to adapt to the new online learning, being disconnected poses ever greater obstacles.

At peddle ilabs we are  committed in seeing that every child has the right to quality education through our innovation regardless of the family status, economic background and environment of the student. We have designed and developed our innovation to suit every environment beginning  from the  incorporation of a low cost technology like a  bicycle as a medium of conveying our lab, this in turns eliminate the use of fossil fuels and burning of carbon to the environment.    

 we have  also developed  learning programs for Teachers on the use of ICT to fully equip them first hand before passing the knowledge down to the student

Desire of young learners having access to quality, safe and equitable learning environment at low cost is our goal.

peddle iLab afford every school or student registered with it to have access to quality digital skills and education at the comfort of their home and school with hands on experimental usage of computer.

Having a big concern that every student in Nigeria must write Joint-Admission and Matriculation-Board (JAMB) exam which is  a Computer Base Test Examination, and with out the knowledge of ICT failure is guarantee even if the student have ideas on the other aspect of the Test.

Peddle lab is changing the way rural and underserved communities, students and teachers will thrive for the future because we are so far engaging with three schools.

we  are carrying out a pilot at Makurdi Benue State to verify the operability of the peddle ilabs system . At this stage, we are fixing any errors that were made during the design stage , we
have Our customers make use of the technology for further development and promotion of the technology to potential buyers or investors, as well as for certification tests of the system
