Briskila Emefesi Women Foundation -BEWOF
Must schools in Nigeria are not conducive students learning.
Briskila Emefesi Women Foundation (BEWOF) is proposing to provide adequate educational support to rural schools such as learning materials, classrooms furniture’s and renovate some deplorable classrooms to be conducive for learning and if possible provide additional classrooms buildings to the school.
BEWOF will also carry out advocacy to governments to scale up funding of education in the rural communities to provide safe and conducive learning environment for students. And also conduct regular inspection to schools which will play a significant role in ensuring that facilities and equipment’s procured are properly maintained.
The quality of education given to the Nigerian child will have a significant effect on national development. More attention should be paid to the environment where teaching and learning occurs if the future of education sector must be secured especially in this time of COVID-19.
The current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is having a profound impact, not only on people’s health, but also on how they learn, work and live. Among the most important challenges created by COVID-19 is how to adapt a system of education build around physical schools. At its peak, more than 188 countries, encompassing around 91% of enrolled learners worldwide, closed their schools to try to contain the pandemic. The closure has a very real impact on all students, but especially on the most vulnerable ones who are more likely to face additional barriers.
Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, allows them to fully engaged and adequately equipped with resources to enhance leaning. In Nigeria, this is not the case; students are subjected to challenging learning conditions due to lack of proper learning infrastructures, corruption, bad leadership, lack or misappropriation of funding etc. From run-down buildings, inadequate classroom space, lack of health facilities, broken class furniture to lack of proper toilet facilities, many schools in Nigeria are in deplorable condition. In some schools, students are subjected to sitting on the floor in poorly built or uncompleted classrooms while other learn under the shades of trees.
Every child in the world have the right to quality, standard, and safe education. This includes the children in Bauchi state and also other states in the northeastern part of Nigeria. Unfortunately, many of this children in most part of the state doesn’t have access to the quality education they need due to the condition of the learning environment. It is the desire of every parent to see their children succeed and have a bright and promising future. Since their own parents/guardians don't have the financial capacity to provide them with quality education, we plan to do our very best to ensure that they have access to the good, quality and equitable environment for learning.
BEWOF is proposing to help advocate to government in order to advocate for increased funding of education to provide safe space for learning. The organization will help to create safe and conducive learning environment in rural areas of Bauchi State through provision of learning materials and classrooms furniture’s to make learning conducive for students. BEWOF will help provide educational materials and classroom furniture’s (Desk and Chairs) and also renovate some of the classrooms to be conducive for learning.
One of the important aspects of learning outcomes is the ability to create a conducive and positive learning environment for students. Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is clean, safe, allows them to fully engaged with the teacher and with each other, and adequately equipped with resources they need to enhance their leaning. The deserve an environment that is physically and emotionally secure so that they can maximize every opportunity for learning.
The proposed target population for the project which is Bauchi LGA has schools in worst condition that lack safe space and equitable environment conducive for leaning. Unfortunately, many of this children in most part of the state doesn’t have access to the quality education they need due to the condition of the learning environment. Most of schools are in deplorable condition from run-down buildings, inadequate classroom space, lack of health facilities, broken class furniture to lack of proper toilet facilities, in some of the rural communities the students learn under the trees
while in some of the communities that have classrooms buildings most of the students seats on the ground to learn.
BEWOF has been working with the target population over the years and have understand there educational condition. some of the communities does not even have the school and so their children have to walk long distance in other to attend school and the current Covid-19 pandemic which affect the economic badly has worsen the situation which affect the education of those children. The communities has always shown concern about the education of their children in which the government have not done anything about it.
This is as a result of the ineptitude and lack of political will from the government. Their incompetence in taking the appropriate measures to fund the improvement of education has been proven. Often, many students are forced to attend these schools due to their social status and their parent’s inability to afford private school. The propose solution will help creating a conducive learning environment for the targets groups. The quality of education given to the Nigerian child will have a significant effect on national development.
BEWOF will become the direct voice to this communities and advocate to government for improvement of education in such communities through increased funding to create a conducive and safe space for teaching and earning activities.

- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
Many activities have been carried out to improve education in the rural communities of Bauchi State in which most of it have been successful but the lack of follow up and maintenance make such interventions collapse.
