Applying for an important award, such as the Elevate Prize will help to increase Phi's profile. If selected as a winner Phi will stand out from other institutions in the field. The award will act as a recommendation. Another thing is that winning the award can benefit Phi with media exposure, mentorship, partnerships, besides the funding.
If selected as a winner Phi will use the prize to expand its work and support many more institutions. Our idea is to use part of the money to start to build an Emergency Fund, that we would continue to build, only using the interest, to support institutions and/or specific cases when it is not possible to wait for fundraising efforts to achieve results.
Part of the money would also be used to improve our online platform so that donors can see where and how their donation is being used and the impact it is achieving.
I´m a storyteller. Of good stories! That's what I do every day. The stories I tell are real stories, in which I have found ways to reduce the distance between people, to reduce social inequalities, to cross paths. My role is to listen and approach, to gather fates, to create partnerships... I am co-founder and executive director of Phi, an institute that connects people and companies to good social projects working in the areas they identify with. In all, Phi has already linked 139 investors to more than 862 initiatives, impacting more than 14 million people across the country. It is an intelligent solidarity network.
I dream of a time when injustices are not seen as natural anymore, when we won't need that huge number of social organizations, when people are automatically inserted into society, when comprehensive and adequate services are available to all and when we trust each other more. I want collective thinking to expand and individuality not to be confused with selfishness.
I want more people to learn to tell stories, all with happy endings, and to build more bridges everywhere.
In the beginning of 2021 almost 27 million people are living in extreme poverty in Brazil, according to FGV Social Projection, more than the population of Australia. The current rate, 12,8% is higher than that of the beginning of the previous decade, 12,4% and of 2019, 11%. According to the World Bank, Brazil is projected to fall into its deepest recession on record. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed Brazil to an unprecedented health and economic challenge.
At Phi we ensure that financial resources arrive in community based projects through the generation of trust between the parties and using simple transparency models to show how and with which results the resources are being used. Our main goal is to maximize the impact of quality projects that work in vulnerable communities.
We work with projects in all Brazilian states.
One of the biggest difficulties for smaller, community-based NGOs is getting access to the money they need to carry out their activities. Phi democratizes the access to this resources by supporting different causes and institutions of all sizes. We promote due diligence to ensure that even though projects are small, they are trustworthy and promote social transformation in the communities in which they operate.
We encourage individuals or legal entities to discover their causes and donate more efficiently to quality social projects.
We evaluate social organizations based on specific indicators and use our own methodology that makes the impact effectively generated by the projects measurable.
Our work creates a donation centralization process of philanthropic resources and help families and companies understand the focus of their philanthropy by creating an experience to discover their cause.
We advise individuals and corporations to donate to social projects, ensuring a well-applied investment and results measurement.
With guidance donations change lives both ways and my passion is to see this change both in the donor and in the person whose life is impacted by this support.
In a very short time, 7 years, we built an organization that is a national reference. I feel that I have an important characteristic to carry out my work, I can connect different universes and arrive at concrete actions.
During this pandemic we are leading one of the most successful campaigns for the delivery of food and other key supplies in Brazil's poor communities. We are going where no government has managed to go, making donations no government was able to make.
I live in an extremely unequal country and I believe that the role of philanthropy is to show ways to change this reality, show concrete results of possible structural changes through good social projects. Brazil is a country with almost no donation culture, almost no tax incentives for donations and my organization has grown exponentially since its foundation. I believe that I am daily finding solutions to overcome the obstacles of an unfriendly environment to support social actions.
Embracing philanthropy is only a matter of will. We are always making excuses to postpone our commitments to others. Working with Phi I realize that it does not take much to make a partnership between a donor and a project, it's a matter of joining an idea that works with the right people committed to a purpose and that is how we are achieving our results. We act in a simple way but are always improving and finding new ways to connect with the potential donors and with the projects, and put them together. I believe in the power of philanthropy, of social transformation and I'm seeing it happening firsthand at Phi's network.
