We are ready to build up a team of visionaries to create our next positive impact project, Comunidad SOStenible La Carpintera ( La Carpintera Sustainable Community). The funds would be used to bring this ambitious project up to the required standards, in order to request international funding.
For three years now we have diligently worked with our local community to rescue our abandoned common areas, make them green and healthy again. We have opened people´s eyes on the tragedy unfolding in our urban river, so contaminated that it cannot withstand life.
However, just South of us, the last patches of the old forest are falling victim to the pressure of extreme poverty. Every day they are killing more trees, to make room for more shacks, where more children of poor families see their dreams of a happy childhood crushed. Zona Protectora Cero de la Carpintera. With your support we can break the vicious circle of vulnerability, both social and environmental. We can create a Model Sustainable Community, resilient to climate change. The community itself can participate in building it. We would be able to create caring communities fulfilling our basic needs:food and shelter.
Our association believes that it is up to us, the regular people, to stop our suicidal, destructive way of life that led to Climate Change. We understand that a radical change in the financial, economic and societal models requires the will and power of governments, but we believe that if we create a space for regular people to participate in the process, we will get there sooner. Responsible consumers will bring forth a new model of production and use of the resources. We also believe that in order to build the green and resilient cities that we so desperately need, people must understand the importance of living in harmony with nature. We started by telling the story of why trees and plants are important in our communities and together we planted them. We are telling the story of the circular economy and people are careful with their waste; why our carbon footprint must be gentle, why our communities must be caring and resilient to the tremenduos challenges lying ahead due to man-made and natural disasters. We want to replace the anguish of living that comes from feeling powerless, with the energy of a common purpose - the sustainable living.
Our environmental organization addresses a specific problem - our lack of balance with the natural world in our day-to-day life. Within the vast list of root causes of that problem we chose to address the following:
1. The lack of education of regular people concerning their individual environmental impact. Action: provide concise, intelligent, easy to understand information.
2. The largely grey profile of our urban areas, lacking biodiversity. Action: Transform all abandoned spaces into biodiversity urban corridors.
3. The poor conditions of the pedestrian and areas in the urban areas of Costa Rica. Action: Pressure on the authorities to take action and improve the pedestrian spaces.
4. The poor management of individual waste. Action: Information on the negative impact on human health and how to turn that around.
5. The lack of the community sense due to the egocentric model of success, as defined by the world economic model. Action: Create caring, active communities through our community encounters.
Our pilot project is working with a community of approximately 1,000 homes, approximately 5,000 people. We believe the problems affect the entire Earth human population. Not to mention the countless lives of the local fauna we have lost by destroying their habitat.
Indifference. Feeling powerless. Overwhelming sense of doom.
These are the three main attitudes that people experience when faced with the avalanche of information about how very wrong we are living our lives and the consequences we are facing and will face in the near future.
We are disrupting this reality, by changing all that into an incredible reservoir of positive energy. We are giving our communties a chance to add their contribution, no matter how small, through their positive action. We share positive information about the change we need to start in ourselves.
With our next project we are going to build the sustainable, resilient community for the vulnerable group living next door, rejected by the current economic model of success. Without an impressive curriculum, most of them are doomed to the life of the forgotten. We plan to give every able hand and mind a chance to learn useful skills and apply them to build together the very same project that will benefit their families. Starting with Community Nutrition Networks, Community Farms, Childrens´Wellbeing Centers and Urban Biodiversity Corridors, and moving on to building the Sustainable Resilient Homes that will keep us safe during the cascade of extreme weather events.
In the year 2021 the human civilization is guilty of having followed a path that is leading us to self-destruction. Violence is what rules every single aspect of our civilization. Democracies and dictatorial regimes alike are full of injustice, inequality, cruelty. We spend our lives trapped in jobs that continously destroy our chances for a future because otherwise we are denied access to our basic needs.
Our association reminds communities that we are not mindless pawns in other people´s greedy pursuits. We are capable of contributing to the healing of our world. Together, us, the simple people, can start doing the right thing, even if the financial and economic experts can only see the narrow vision of balance sheets. By transforming our communities into healthy ecosystems, we can also learn on the way how to start creating our better, greener lives. We plan on disrupting the notions of private property to private rights. We plan on fulfilling promises not of riches but of thriving. We plan on giving the community a voice, not through the fallacy of political representation, which has proven a failure, but through the direct, informed, respectful participation. We will build, community by community, our sustainable future.
