THRIVE Africa Foundation
- South Africa
The funds would help to build the infrastructure, namely, an education centre, a health centre and the aquaponics farming. It will aid in the training of the various community members to the various jobs that are being created. It will assist in providing an exceptional education system that will best serve the children of the community and provide a literacy program for the adults. It will build the accommodation to house the volunteers that will provide the much needed support to help make these projects successful.
It will provide the funds required to set up a clean, drinking water system and an environmentally sound sanitation systems.
We will value the support in creating continued awareness of the projects and aid in advancing these projects to other impoverished communities throughout South Africa. We are open to our own growth and receiving training, that will aid the growth of the foundation. What we have, may be used as a blueprint to serve other communities, to help them to thrive as well, for the betterment of the communities and the country at large.
I was born to a Coloured family, with my ancestry hailing from Javanese slaves, Scottish immigrants and the Southern African indigenous people, the Bushmen.
I grew up under the apartheid regime and as a high school scholar and university student, we had no option but to participate in the liberation struggle of South Africa. I understand what it is to be discriminated against, both in South Africa and when I was living abroad in the UK. I understand what it is to feel less than and no human being should feel that way. I would like to share with people the understanding of their own magnificence.
In a world that is filled with inequality, it is my desire to provide impoverished communities with the tools they need to create a life that is self-sustaining and thriving. A life where they can know their own value and be of value, in their own country and the world at large.
THRIVE Africa Foundation strives to bring to these communities, education, healthcare, employment and industry and technology in an ecologically and environmentally sound way.
It is our duty to leave this planet better than when we arrived.
The current community that we are working with are from the Khomanisan Bushmen, with around 3000 to 4000 people. They are situated in an extremely arid region. With no infrastructure they are needing assistance with:
Education: We need school buildings and an education system that best suits the need of the Bushmen children. Due to their isolation (200km from the nearest town) many children don't attend school. There is also a huge adult literacy challenge as well.
Healthcare: They are in need of a clinic, providing easier access for the community. At present young and old alike have to walk around 13km to the next village's clinic.
Employment: Aquaponics farming is best suited to their arid region and hemp farming by and large offers huge growth in employment with the number of products that can be produced from the hemp, thus opening up different industries.
Water and sanitation: This needs to be addressed in a sustainable way.Water from air and a dry sanitation system will serve the community.
With the success of this project, the lives in the surrounding communities of around 14000 people, will also be touched.
Once the projects are fully implemented and the training completed, the community will have the platform to be thriving and self-sustaining. They will have their own industries and be able to assist and invest in the upliftment of other communities.
Employment and growth will be at their discretion. A continued volunteer system will constantly bring new knowledge and technology and growth into the community.
It is the birthright of every human being to live a life of dignity and have the basic necessities of life. There is no logical need for poverty and hunger in our world, other than what greed and power has sought to create.
The education system that will be implemented will focus on the talent and passion of the individual child.
The hemp aquaponics farming will create employment not only for the immediate community, but the extended communities as well. We have already procured the supplier of the seeds and the end buyer of the hemp, so that the community is already assured of an income, once implemented.
By providing solar systems we are already improving the lives in the community.
Fresh drinking water is a human right.
The dry sanitation system will provide the community with dignity, since there is no access to sanitation at this moment.
Easy and early access to health is imperative to a healthy society and is essential in the preservation of life.
For all of the above, we have the various suppliers and training in place to make this a successful venture.
Access to sufficient funds will allow us to move quickly and efficiently.
