Hyperislandify (Hyper-Island-ify)

The vision of every urbanised island in the world totally self-sustaining/autarkic by designing resilient Internet-of-Things infrastructure.

Problem: Urbanised islands all over the world suffer from migration, resource constraints, recurring hazards and geographic isolation (MIRAB-model). In both pre-emptive and post-disaster settings, manufacturing/fabrication of resilient infrastructure - especially permanent housing and connectivity platforms - become major concerns. Solution: I propose to digitally design and fabricate Internet-of-Things infrastructure like connected-homes and energy-grids to shrink down the supply-chain to a hyper-local decentralised scale. Islands provide with perfect small-scale test-beds for hyper-local systems. Digital fabrication tools aid rapid building efforts, devoid of conventional resource and labour constraints. Decentralised connectivity in form of city-wide-network would solve high dependency of islands to bigger centres. At current prototype/ proof-of-concept stage, a few components of Internet-of-Things infrastructure is being fabricated to test its resilience and decentralised functionalities. Impact: By 2050, every urbanised island in the world will be totally self-sustaining/autarkic. All islands will hyper-locally manufacture everything they need. Once the system is robust, it could be scaled up and replicated across the world even in bigger cities.
