One-line solution summary.

This is a cost effective and work efficient fingerprint door lock system

Elevator pitch
What is your solution?

This is a fingerprint door system solution. The way this system works is that it captures a photo of our finger ridges , and then it uses a certain algorithm to match it with stored data and display results of the same the next time the user inputs their finger and if the fingerprint is recognised, the door automatically unlocks itself and then starts a 5 minute countdown where it then  auto locks itself. This technology uses biometrics and arduino technology to operate .

What specific problem are you trying to solve?

People ussualy  go for padlocks as their main security lock systems in their homes not by choice but by the high cost of the alternative ways. Even though they know the dangers and hazards they can have , they still use the for lack of an alternative. I want to make an alternative for them. According to statistics done by the kenya administration police and directorate of criminal investigation, about 30-50 homes are invaded by robbers and burglars every day in Kenya. If a person is robbed from their house, they end up being bankrupt and some of them turn to crime so as to sustain themselves and their families while Some end up as street families due to lack of this sustainability.

Who does your solution serve? In what ways will the solution impact their lives?

I believe that community service and support to the people who are economically disadvantaged is the start to a sustainable world. This solution targets all kinds of people but specifically the people who are economically disadvantaged.

What steps have you taken to understand the needs of the population you want to serve?

I first consulted our school's STEAM workshop technician and told him of the idea and if it were relevant and possible. I then visited several homes that have expirienced the wrath of using a padlocks as the main security system for their homes I handed them a questionnaire and after analysis, 96% suggested that they would wish to have such gadgets. I then asked some of them to write a rough sketch of what they would want the product to look like so I could analyse the information to come up with the physical attributes of the products.
I also have tried to visit an outlet of this accessories but unfortunately could not allow me to get the data  I wanted on how their products come to be so costly.

Which aspects of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?
  • Other: Addressing an unmet social, environmental, or economic need not covered in the four dimensions above
What is the unmet need that your solution tried to address? Why is it important?

social security-social security is one of the most fundamental things when one wants to achieve sustainability but the most ignored. Even the above challenges will be hard or even can not be achieved without social security

Our solution's stage of development:
  • Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
Explain why you selected this stage of development for your solution—in other words, what have you accomplished to date?

When improving an already existing solution, one needs to conduct a lot of research both primarily and in secondary ways of collecting data in order for them to explore as many exist   solutions and then identify their strengths and weaknesses of the product so as to know how to generate a unique way to make your product.
Strategic planning is also key in development of such products for it works as backbone for all the projects activities.
