What is the name of your solution?
Building of Carbon Free Houses
Provide a one-line summary of your solution.
Building of houses with low Carbon materials and fixing of gas traps at all the openings of the building to eliminate Carbon emission from houses
Film your elevator pitch.
What specific problem are you solving?

Greenhouse gases are substances that adversely affect the environment by interfering with climate, the physiology of plants, animal species, entire ecosystems, as well as with human property in the form of agricultural crops or man-made structures.  Global climate change has been recognized as one of the most important environmental challenges to be faced by humanity in the 21st century.  Climate research has linked certain compounds long recognized as air pollutants (for instance black carbon) to the warming of climate.Too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is not good for the planet or other living creatures. While CO2 is a natural result of life, and a vital part of the growth cycle of plants, too much of it in the atmospheric bubble that surrounds the Earth traps the heat from the sun, raising temperatures on Earth.

Globally, Buildings account for around 35% of resources, 40% of energy use, consume 12% of the world’s drinkable water and produce almost 40% of global carbon emissions.

Poorly designed and constructed buildings use more energy, increasing the demand on energy production and contributing to global warming.

Transport system have also accounted for a reasonable amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Though 70% of the CO2 is from road transportation. cars produced approximately three billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide in 2020.

What is your solution?

●Cement, concrete’s primary ingredient, accounts for about 5% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions.

●Reducing energy use in buildings is one of the most important ways to reduce humans’ overall environmental impact.

Developing less carbon and energy intensive alternative which led to the design of an alternative to the energy-intensive methods with a low energy biological process of microbial manufacturing. Biobrick produces no
greenhouse gases and uses a widely available raw material. This alternative are produced using simple Geobiochemical processes.
With the major constituent being:
●Water
●Urea
●urease(Enzymes)
●Calcium Chloride
●Sand(volcanic rocks)

THE PROCESS OF FORMATION
metabolic reaction of the mixture of sand, urea, and calcium chloride, creates a glue that strongly bound the sand molecules.

●Pumping bacterial solution into a sand-filled mould(alive bacterial cells or dead but enzymatically active cells as the changing pH catalyst). The bacterial species Sporosarcina pasteurii , is used as a bioagent of biocement because of its high urease activity and ability to grow at pH above 8.5 and at high concentration of calcium, at least at 0.75 M Ca2+.

CALCIUM CHLORIDE
Calcium chloride (CaCl2), has the ability to accelerate cement hydration and reduce set time by as much as two thirds due to its hygroscopic nature and the tackiness of its hydrates; calcium chloride is highly hygroscopic and its hydration is an exothermic process.                  Research has shown that a 2% addition rate has an equivalent cure strength at 50°F as plain concrete at 70°F. Set times below 50°F will be longer, but the accelerated cure rate will still be greater than that of plain concrete.

In addition to the important contributions of cold weather protection and early strength of concrete, calcium chloride provides other benefits as well:

• Improves workability regardless of mixture design, less water is required to produce a given slump when calcium chloride is used.

• Improves strength of air-entrained concrete        calcium chloride compensates for the reduction in strength with a higher cement factor concrete.

• Reduces bleeding               this is due to the early stiffening produced by acceleration and allows earlier final finishing.

These advantages combine to produce better quality concrete faster. Concrete acceleration with calcium chloride greatly facilitates completing jobs as quickly and economically as possible.

HOUSE DESIGN IMPROVEMENT
Poorly designed and constructed buildings use more energy, increasing the demand on energy production and contributing to global warming.

●Gas traps should be placed strategically along all open spaces in the house to absorb escaped gases from heating and cooking systems in the house.

Gas traps can be made using and Activated charcoal, montemorillonite clay.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

This solution is aimed at impacting the general households.

Houses built with high carbon materials such as cement and wood Houses that uses wood and other cooking media that emits carbon.

Most household are built with materials that has high carbon content and with increase in energy demand in houses from one activity or the other alot of carbon compounds are released to the atmosphere causing global warming.

But with this solution, with an improvement in the construction and design of the building and also the choice of materials the emission of carbon gases will be drastically Mininimized to the bearest minimum which will in turn save both the climate, environment and humans.

How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?

We are not only a group with revolutionary carbon free innovation, our social skills is also uptight. Quite a number of our team are members of the Target population, which invariably means we are better equipped to know the challenges of our people.

Before now we've already identified these challenge and have taken necessary steps towards solving the problem at hand. Infact submitting an entry to SOLVE, is one the steps.
The global statistics given as to the death rate and other health challenges caused as a result of burning of Fossil fuel are not mere figures but a true representation of how how our world, my world, is bitterly injured as a result of high carbon.

Steps we've taken for our target population to accept our innovation
We've carried out sensitization campaign on the cause and effect of Carbon on the atmosphere and possible solutions to reduce these risk of these global time bomb waiting to defuse.

Respiratory problems, coma and increase of heart rate as the offsprings of some of the activities we do that glorifies CO2 were few out of the health challenges we outlined for them. These allow smoth acceptance of our innovation.

•Town hall meetings

•Community out reach and campaigns to internalize these solutions.

•Meeting with the government of the community to discuss these solutions and further enlighten them how the world has already launched a battle against high carbon.

•During our outreach pamphlets about the cause, effect and solution will go round to further explain our course.

•We will further carry out and opinion poll and tailor our solutions within the boundaries of the complains we receive.

Which dimension of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?
  • Enable mass production of inexpensive and low-carbon housing, including changes to design, materials, and construction methods.

Why are you applying to Solve?

Difficulty in Government accepting the IInnovation. we have difficulty in making the government of other regions within our target population to embrace the solution we have on board. Solve can use it's international standing to influence the acceptance of these new Innovation for the betterment of the people.

Financial Challenges
Though solve have discouraged with strong terms that this is the last place to seek for Financial support. But indeed one of the problems we encounter is house expensive the cost of these campaigns and outreach can be. Our innovation also require money to fund the whole project.

Technical Barrier.                        Some of the technology applied in our innovation came from the services of some people that are not from the team but possess the technical know how in the concerned field. We will be more than delighted if solve can use the influence within it's reach to train few of our team members on the field we are lacking in experience for the good of this innovation.

Market Barrier
People are yet to fully understand the importance of the innovation, thus the product have less reception in the market. But when our finances is geared up it will strengthen our publicity, raise our awareness and make our innovation the Holy Grail in the Market.

In which of the following areas do you most need partners or support?
  • Financial (e.g. improving accounting practices, pitching to investors)
