Youth STEAM Powered Pathway Programs
Primary Problem: Ocean borne trash (OBT) has now become the pervasive threat to the ocean ecosystems and natural resources that support the people who live within the Samoa Archipelagos.
Secondary Problem: Educational Outreach to create awareness of the OBT problem through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education we require to achieve the awareness enhancing part of solving the OBT problem cannot be fully realized until we establish more Learning Centers for students, teachers and villages.
Teach the Ocean Borne Trash (OBT) Problem to the People – create an A wide awareness of the OBT problem, reveal all the possible sources of the OBT problem and work closely with each community, involve all interested individuals and youth to build a clear understanding of the entire OBT Problem for all of us.
RES’ educational outreach program is teaching and enhancing awareness of the people of AS of the OBT Problem, and that the problem is too large for a 1-fix-all mind frame. The RES OBT Program resulted in creating teamwork between local Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEM) experts collaborating with national and international STEM experts who are working on this same problem around the world. Working together with STEAM global partners our AS businesses and people are sharing information about what worked, what did not work, lessons learned, best practices, and next steps in solving the OBT Problem in AS and hope that our successes and failures will help our global partners in their OBT remediation efforts.
RES has been conducting Village and School Based Outreach involving entire communities and every individual interested in helping fix and reduce our OBT Problem, RES has been sponsoring shoreline OBT cleanups, OBT removal, sorting, repurposing and compiling Data from each cleanup effort. We share the OBT data we collect from each shoreline cleanup around AS with our global partners using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Marine Debris Management and Assessment Program (MDMAP) database.
Educational outreach is the best tool we have employed for nine years to bring our solutions to the OBT Problem to the people of AS. Our village and school based outreach efforts gives us the opportunity to share our information compiled with inputs from our local and global partners; putting together all the processes that resulted in successful solutions for reducing our OBT problem. RES since expanded our educational outreach efforts by including a WebEx connecting student, teachers, and community leaders of AS to local, national and international STEAM Professionals. Our STEAM Professional collaborators present on the STEAM aspect specific to their educational, professional, and career field. A sort of Pathway talk story format that we hope will help our youth create new solutions to our environmental and natural resources problems while giving them ideas to build their own educational and career Pathways.

Free Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Pathway buildup for AS students with the help of our local, national, and international STEAM Professional Partners. RES Inc., established a joint WebEx with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), AS Government offices, medical professionals, educators and students to build STEAM education and career Pathways for AS students with the help of global STEAM Professionals. The WebEx scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each week features a Pathway presentation from a STEAM Professional on his/her specific STEAM education or career field.
With a population of approximately 66,000 people AS literacy rate is 95% and that is better than some states in the US. However, what off-islanders do not know is that, that literacy rate is in the Samoan language not English for speech and reading, which is why RES Inc., has formed a partnership with local and federal government agencies on island, and community groups to establish village based English reading and writing classes. Part of this effort happens at every shoreline cleanup RES sponsors; our employees are paired with a non-English speaking participant he/she translates English to Samoa for our non-English speaking participants. In addition, through a partnership with our primary and secondary level schools, students who volunteer to work with a non-English speaking participant at our shoreline cleanups translating for them and helping them with their English development receives credit towards a related course of work.
STEAM Powered Outreach, from OBT shoreline cleanups, to village youth Educational Outreach, our STEAM Professionals Pathways program and the arrival of Covid19 to the shores of AS on February 21, 2022. RES continues to find ways to deliver education to our island youth with the development of Virtual Classrooms available to students and teachers on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each week. RES has completed work on establishing our first joint Learning Center with STEAM Academy partners to provide students with a safe place, Covid19 social distancing and facemask protocols enforced, free for their schoolwork use with tutor assistance as needed.
Our services are not a one-fit-all, since its founding Remote Elite Services Inc., has always adapted our services to meet the requirements of our people and businesses. Our processes are not set in stone; we adapt our operations to ensure that our services deliver 100% satisfaction and surpass the expectations of our people and businesses. RES is a person-to-person physical networking company, we go to our customers or our customers come to us, we talk our business and reach agreements face-to-face and we still hard-documents with electronic backups.
American Samoa, Manu’a Islands, Aunu’u and the Independent Island Nation of Samoa, we are traditionally and culturally verbal, literate and visual people. We strongly believe and continue the practice of delivering value and trust through direct connections and exchange of information person-to-person. We still practice that authentic business model; however, with the arrival of Covid19 to our islands RES is now Facebooking, Twitting, Zooming, and WebEx-ing our business on electronic media with follow-up person-to-person with our customers who request it.
Our practiced business model is the Fa’a Samoa (Samoan Way) the strong help the weak, those with abundance share with those having less or without. RES was not founded or operate as a for-profit for business only company. RES Inc., was founded to create income for our family members blessed with talent, the highest work ethics, steeped in family values, and outstanding public service characteristics. However, our employees and family members did not have the education or work experience commonly required by companies to hire them.
We hired and employed our people because they wanted to work and employ their talents for an honest day’s pay. RES is a family oriented work place, we are flexible our people work when they can; they do good work and take off when the work is done. We allow our personnel if they desire to work for our other partners, we teach and train new processes continuously. We give our folks the time to grow, from top to bottom our personnel train and learn every aspect of the company; this allows us to cover for each other’s when emergencies arise.
RES is a Partner/Network-centric family supporting business strong in the Fa’a Samoa and linked to all other business on our islands. We share information on incoming federal and local government and commercial contracts, we pool our resources, share the talents of our personnel, outsource and insource with each other’s; trading our workforce, equipment, tools, materials, supplies and training with each other’s.
