learning Mission with Candenez (lemica)
We realize the world has face a ‘learning crisis’ worldwide; and recognize there's needs to be a shift from focus on schooling to focus on learning (2018 report, on world development). In Tanzania, more children are now enrolled in school. With the introduction of the fee-free basic education policy, enrolment which increase number of scholars across all levels from primary school to secondary school. By 2020, 15.4 million students were enrolled to school in Mainland Tanzania from pre-primary up to advanced level secondary education, but schools remain with a shortage of teachers and basic infrastructure. With such an environment, the addition of school closures from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic (March to June 2020) brought on new challenges.
Children age 5-18 years whom required to be in school are considered as the biggest victims of the disruption learning, parents and care givers in our less resourced communities they were left with no option than to stay home with their children.
Due to hardship they spend much time working, find no time to teach the children to learn rather than engaging them in family activities and traditions' most of them have never been to school in their days, children are forced to work at early age so they become busy and also find themselves food and help the family to cater their needs.
early marriages and pregnancy to young girls increases, many underserved communities practices all tradition practices, like early marriages, polygamy, this makes the parents not to have time with the family, and it become a very big challenge for the small children who still need to pass through a learning process.
Schools and teachers were the best solutions for young children because they keep them busy and away from early marriages and alcoholic addiction, the Tanzania government has a law of all young children to be put to school and this was strictly and seriously taken even in the rural areas in those underserved communities,;- because they fear to be held in prison, this helps the teachers to have a close eye to small girls not to get involve in sex life at early age also young boys not to engage themselves in bad groups of smoking and drinking alcohol.
This is why there's need for intervention, and we as solver we come up with plan and design a project which work to solve the problem, and it will help the disruption learners to re-engage in learning process.
We witnessed a big ‘technology rush’ with the government and education stakeholders exploring what solutions to school closures technology can offer. with learning mission project we would like to reflect on some successful stories of learning mission as solution and new cheapest affordable and easy adaptive technology, during the time of school closures and disruption. I will share some ‘disruptive’ ideas for a post COVID-19 . Lemica make sure every child within the project knows how to read and write, no early pregnancy, no child labor, no alcohol addiction to young boys, eradicate poverty, and create opportunities to young generation to re-engage in learning and get self employment skills.
This is possible by raising awareness to parents and also to the community, also when we get enough fund we will give at least two tablets in each center for easy' follow up with the facilitators and also it will help the student to practice computer, on learning mission when there is disruption within the community, candenez make things possible by collaborating with other stakeholders and people who are ready to volunteer to join our solve team.
our solution target facilitators within the community, this will help to save cost and resources gathered by reducing transportation costs, learning mission with candenez offer Trainings to teachers who are within our solve team' This are graduates with no employment yet, retired teachers, technical professions, and school teachers this all people must be within the specific community.
We Collaborate with the Village leaders and parents to make innovation easy, the learning mission with candenez has a center in 10 targeted communities in each center we have five teachers with different teaching skills, each center accommodate 100 scholars.
Learning mission with Candenez have a big vision of having more than one center in one village, and we aim to train many teacher' in order to cover the shortage of teachers in schools and also make room for more scholars accommodation in the centers.
The underserved people from under resource community, poverty has created learning gap in their life in which we decided to intervene by creating a solution, Learning Mission with Candenez (lemica) is a project which will help young children age from 5-18 years, to be able to re-engaged learning within their community.

we are community workers whom work very closely to the community, and we know the gap which is in the community, our work is to solve every day challenges facing our communities. We do research in our daily basis by talking to the village leaders as well as the community. since the occur of covid19 pandemic many children did not go back to school due to different problems but the bigger reason is poverty.
By Identifying the problem' we discover that, Many people lost their jobs due to covid19 pandemic and they are the once to pay all the family bills! many pupils drop out of school because their parents have failed to pay for them school fees, or even buy school uniform for them while others are forced to stay home due to school closure.
we normally meet with community leaders to explore more about the community, within our thematic area as an organization and have a discussion about the community we are serving getting to know the environment, that's where we know about the problems facing the community, we arrange a visit to go and talk to the people' just to make sure we become part of the problem , study the problem, by doing a field visit we interact with the community talk to them and know how to help them after discovering their need.
Discussing how to solve the present problem' by prioritizing the needs, analyzing the cause of the problem and explain it in easy language, make them part of decision making team, make it easy to gather resources needed for solving that problem, translating the problem by explaining in a simple language helps the solution to be less cost, less time, more effective solution.

To make our solution successful we will need a technical and also financial support so that we may be able to make facilitation easy in the rural area of Tanzania, Transportation is needed, training materials, posters announcements, center for teaching, tablets, computers.
also technically we need professional teachers who will train our volunteers and teachers who will volunteer to our program, what we needed or expect is to meet the goal of learning mission with candenez as soon as possible.

Learning Mission with Candenez is a new approach to this problem and it is going to be so much effective because it have been designed with people who have explore and be part of the problem, we know and understand its roots, we stay within the affected area because it is our field of work, it is going to be so easy for the targeted group to innovate our solution since we are part of them .
The solution will be delivered by the people from the same area of the problem who understand the ways and cultures the challenges and the people facing the problem because we are going to select and recruit volunteers who were retired teachers, graduates, and teachers from within the underserved community in order to minimize cost and also to be effective in delivering the service.
and also as stake holders we have arrange strong in person conversation with the team, which will be teaching and deliver the learning just to make sure they incline with the objective, set for them in order to achieve the program goal and learning mission with Candenez .
In five years we would like to have a product of candenez from the people we are helping now, we expect to have a very successful solvers from this platform.
Also in five years time we will have a school with all the required facilities to help the community become a better place for children and youth, we will also add facilities for learning and be a source of producing new teachers in order to raises the school enrollment from 15.4 million by 2020 to 20million by 2023.
our school will have both younger and older people teachings depending with their requirement
The youth we are helping today with 18 years old now, they will become our pioneers in five years time for they will be 23years old enough to become mentors and solvers in their communities as well as our good ambassadors.











The indicators which shows the progress of Learning mission with candenez are as follow
1. we have manage to look for centers where the learning take place in mererani manyara region and monduli juu
2. we have also manage to talk with volunteers about the vision and mission of our project
3. we have talk to the village leaders and village elders in order to get information and also to interact with them to make learning easy
4. we have conducted seminar with young children which is our target group in order to highlight some of the things concerning with the solution of their problem,
5. we have also manage to teach the adolescent youth about self care and the effects of early pregnancies' and drug abuse
6. we have also manage to talk to children on the importance of education and we have give them some books and pencils for school.

we are using technology which is a must use as of this developed time, Communication has been made easier by technology.
in training our teachers and volunteers we have a platform where we share materials and also new ideas as a team, this has made communication faster and so effective,
we have Whatsapp group which we use as away of communicating
we also use tradition way of communication since we work in underserved community where not every one afford to own a phone, we organize a community event in which we know every community member will participate and use that event as platform to convey our message.

we have also be able to buy school items for more than 50 vulnerable children from money we get from selling toys as an income activity within our organization.

Our mission is to collaborate with other stake holders, in order to gather resources, which we will use them to facilitate and helping the community which we serve to come out of poverty.
for the past three years of operation we have never receive any fund from donners, we always use the small amount we contribute from our pockets and from local stake holders to conduct the few project which we've done for the past three years.
