Olori Abebi-Oba Makama Foundation
¡During the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) our organization found out that the major challenges and problems a lot of people were facing then was the poor supply and accessibility to good, healthy and sustainable food. It is believed in a Yoruba adage that when hunger is removed from human equation, they face other challenges headlong. During this period our organization went round to hand over to the orphans, the widows, single mothers and unemployed youths food items to sustain them at the time and this at a very high cost as prices of food items sky rocket.
¡Also, we continue to observe post covid is no difference as lots of people lost their jobs, businesses, means of livelihood and some even lost loved ones who were bread winners of their respective families leaving widows and children behind who will definitely need to feed to survive. Yes we have continue to support these sets of people as much as we could but, this is not going away soon as it is also feared that there might be a second wave of the pandemic.
¡This is what informed our organization to look inward and look for a permanent and sustainable solution to these problems caused by hunger and we came up with this brilliant idea that we should grow our own food, process our own food and give to these vulnerable people in our society for free and also sell part of it to pay full time workers and sustain the program. Our idea:
¡We intend for a start acquiring Twenty (20) Acres of land in Kuta Community of Aiyedire Local Government Area of Osun State for Agricultural and Farming purposes. On the farm we shall cultivate most common and stable foods from cassava, maize and melon cultivation. After harvest, the produced will be processed, part of it will be sold to pays salaries of those who work in the farm as full time staff and the rest distributed for free among these identified vulnerable members of the society as the unemployed youths, widows, single mothers and the aged.
¡We also intend to set up a cat fish pond to produce enough fish and a poultry to raise chickens to be freely distributed to these people and part of it also sold. The income generated from it shall be used to pay salaries and sustain the program.
¡And, finally our organization is also setting up a bakery for bread production in large quantity as lots of people also love eating bread and this over the years has become a staple food in our community. With the proceeds from the bakery used to pay salaries and sustain the program. The breads are however given freely to these vulnerable souls in our community.
¡This project which involves:
¡Agricultural Production and Food Processing
¡Fish production
¡Poultry
¡Bread making
¡Will have a positive impact in the community as it will create employment for unemployed youths in the area, provide staple and hygienic food for the people, improve the economy in the area, help people get back to their feet post covid and reduce continuance reliance on the government for aids from time to time. The vulnerable in our community will be well catered for and attended to reducing crime and prostitution among widows, single mothers and our teenage girls.

- Support timely and manageable assessments to help under-resourced communities better plan, monitor, and evaluate learning
- Growth
¡With these grant to execute this project we stand at a great advantage. The difference been that there are others who are involved in same project but who only sell their produce and processed food to all and do not include in their program charitable given to the poor, needy and vulnerable as we do.
¡We on the other hand as a non-governmental organization actually intend to distributes these processed from our base to the vulnerable and less privileged and sell to the general public at a very affordable price for all, both the rich and the poor. The financial proceeds are just to sustain the program and pay salaries of those who work full time.
¡It is our desire that instead of always depending on the government, sponsors and donors to sustain the provision of food to vulnerable members of the society and that these community members should always be at the mercy of the government that if and when this project is seen to fruition that these continuous dependability will reduce or be completely eradicated. Hygienic, healthy and good food can be produced and processed year in and year out to cater for these communities. A country or a community that cannot feed itself is gradually sliding towards extinction. Good, hygienic and healthy well processed food accessibility at no or low cost will sustain a people and her economy for a very long time to come.
Thank you.
- Financial (e.g. improving accounting practices, pitching to investors)
YES, and that is the aspect of computer and digital literacy makes it innovative. We all know the world is gradually becoming a global village and what made it so is digital activities around us. Adding to the prevalent pandemic ravaging our society that is, the corona virus (covid-19) pandemic. With this digital knowledge some of these training would have to be carried out online or via virtual means to reduce the spread of the disease. So been computer literate and been digital compliant is non-negotiable in our today world. It will as the project involve lots of training, teaching and lectures including skills acquisition to empower the participants. They will be taught entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, business and financial management, time management
The long-term changes we are expecting are:
- High literacy among the large majority of the community members especially children between 5 to 18 years.
- Very low rate of employment among the teaming youths who are roaming the streets unemployed
- High reduction in crime, prostitution and poverty
- Entrepreneurs who are employers of labour which will in turn lead to economic and community development
- 99% of the populace been literate, learned, self-reliant and dependent
- Computer literacy and intelligence
Yes, we have worked with them before in the past and still working with them and the reason been that we are taking the project batch by batch until we are able to cover the entire community and LGA. Find below some of the past relationship with these groups in the past:
First Quarter (January 2022– April 2022) (500 Beneficiaries)
teaching and training of less privileged kids and out of school children and other kids from age 5 and above.
Second Quarter (May 2022 – August 2022) (500 Beneficiaries)
250 Children benefitted from Quiz competition and children’s day party
250 teenagers empowered in skills acquisition and empowerment from training in acquiring new skills Free Health Care and Palliates
Third Quarter (September 2022 – December 2022) (500 Beneficiaries)
Teaching and Training of Kids from 5 year to 18 year on digital skills ranging from computer coding and programming, computer usage and skills acquisition, computer based test and practice, visual aid learning and data base, Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning and practice, Drone flying and management etc
These and many more will also be repeated for the next five years and continuously
We measure our goals:
1. by the number of kids and teenagers trained, educated and empowered yearly
2. the impact it has in the society, reduction of out of school children, out of street kids, and life transforming skills acquisition by these kids, children and teenagers
3. reduction in crime rate. when you take them away from the streets, feed them, clothe them and train them to be educated and responsible. crime rate falls
4. reduction in prostitution especially among the teenage girls who might be dependent on the proceeds from prostitution to survive
5. Feeding them via agricultural development and farm produce processing
6. Put them in schools or learning centre to make them literate academically and most importantly making them to be ICT compliant by teaching them computer, coding, programming, AI and so on
The main problems the project is trying to solve is:
- Illiteracy, Unemployment, Poverty, Crime, Child abuse and Prostitution
The total population of Aiyedire LGA is about 100,000 and 50,000 and between the ages of 15 – 64 years (50%), about 30,000 are between the ages of 0 – 14 years (30%) and less than 5,000 are between the ages of 65 years and above (about 5%).
The target groups which are ages 15 – 64 (over 50%) years are unemployed youths, single mothers and widows. The training for a period of 12 months carried out in batches of four months each, will help to teach them about entrepreneurship and basic personal individual business management. After acquiring this knowledge, the organization will now go further to empower them financially to start-up their own businesses and subsequently follow-up to ensure good management of the given funds. The youths among them will learn new skills to be self-reliant.
These will help to reduce illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, child abuse and prostitution among the youths, the single mothers and widows that will benefit from the program. The program will go round the entire LGA and will be carried out three times within the year i.e. every four months so as to keep to the covid-19 rules of social distancing
The core technology that powers our solutions are:
1. Learning one on in classroom by making use of the computer and projector screen and board
2. Software for coding and programming
3. Microsoft office and application to teach them ms word, ppt, excel and so on while making use of computer systems practically
