Innovative Practices in Technology for SRHR
A virtual pilot project for increasing awareness of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health through Digital Advocacy.
In the present scenario there are a total of 1.3 billion adolescents (aged 10-19 years) which make up around 16% of the total world population (Adolescents Statistics - UNICEF DATA). Many of them are not aware about their Sexual and Reproductive Health needs. Many of times parents and Teachers who are important stakeholders in the context of Very Young Adolescents (aged 10-14 years). As they are not aware of the importance of ASRHR at an early age they discourage their children from participating in civic spaces. Therefore when in need of guidance adolescents go to their friends or other places for guidance and get incorrect information which is harmful to them.
Our solution is to increase awareness of adoloscents about their Adolescent sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRHR) through the use of technology For this we organized a workshop titled ' Innovative Practices in Technology for SRHR ' as a pilot project on December 18, 2022. Through this we improved their Digital literacy and also got opinions and feedbacks on our pilot project.
- Our target population are Very Young and Older Adolescents. They are unaware about their SRHR needs which thus leads them to practice self-harming behaviors. if in case anyone comes for guidance they also further give incorrect information.
- Our solution is to make them aware of their SRHR and to also groom them as peer leaders so that they do can give correct information to anyone in times of help.
I am a certified master trainer by UNICEF. I have experience training on SRHR. I am also a member of IAWG SWG ASRHR (IAWG: Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises | Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises) which is a coalition of 400 plus organizationsacross the Globe. We have frequent monthly meetings in which we discuss updates on the work being done to promote ASRHR. I am also a member of Atal Innovation Hub by the Government of India in which I was selected after being in the top 300 teams from India.
We organized a pilot project mentioned above in December. We recieved amazing results and many participants were eager for follow up events like this. We also recieved many positive feedbacks from the participants.
- Improving healthcare access and health outcomes; and reducing and ultimately eliminating health disparities (Health)
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
There is no current work being done anywhere in the world on Digital Advocacy. It is our unique idea. We also brought the African & Asian Youth together so that they could discuss the problems they were facing in their present setting. They could also understand the commonalities and differences in the problems they were facing.
Our impact goals for the next year are as follows-
- To conduct many more events like this
- Introduce to new emerging programming platforms/languages like Flutter etc.
- To increase the time of the workshop.
- To have a bigger audience.
Scratch, Python
- Software and Mobile Applications
- Afghanistan
- Burkina Faso
- Burundi
- Cameroon
- Ethiopia
- Ghana
- India
- Kenya
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Uganda
A total of 50 participants attended our first workshop (pilot project). We plan to serve a total of 200 people next year as we are planning to do series of events in 2023.
We have a very a smaller number of channels to reach to the participants.
MIFALI & STEPS Network. They both are Youth run & Youth led organizations.
