What specific problem are you trying to solve?

Violence against women in Mexico continues to escalate. In 2022, the highest number of emergency calls for sexual abuse, harassment, and harassment were recorded in the last seven years, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

From January to April 2022, 106,441 emergency calls related to incidents of violence against women were recorded.

women are traditionally associated as the main victims of violence, but it is also important to focus our gaze on what is behind the aggressors, who are immersed in a society and a culture that has historically conditioned them to think that a form of expressing his “masculinity” is through violent, dominant, possessive, controlling attitudes and behaviors, so any attempt to change this represents a “danger” to his “manhood”.

Violence against women can cause long-term physical and mental health problems. Violence and abuse affect not only the women involved but also their children, family members, and communities. These effects include damage to the individual's health, possible long-term damage to children, and damage to communities such as job loss and homelessness.

From January to October 2022, 3,155 women have been murdered, but in the vast majority of cases, the investigations pursue the crime as intentional homicide and not as femicide. Although more than 10 women are murdered daily in Mexico, only 24% of the cases are investigated as femicides.

Lastly, Mexico occupies the tenth position with 1.4 femicides for every 100,000 women

What is your solution?

My solution is to create an app exclusively for women; In this application, you can share data such as location in real-time from the moment you leave home, in case you feel in danger (that someone is following you, that you don't feel comfortable at a party, etc.) through a series of steps such as pressing the volume or power button the application will send an alert to all registered women near the area so that they can support the person in danger, either by removing them from that place, inviting them to come in or simply by getting closer so that she feels safer when seeing more people.

To avoid dangers there will be different "clicks" for the application to send alerts depending on the case, that is to say, in case of a serious emergency such as an armed person, the application will send the information directly to the police, as well as to certain emergency contacts. Another important point is that the application will be for the exclusive use of women since it will have an identification before registration that will force the only use for women.

The data that the application will take will be the location and its profile will also have the physical record of each woman in case of disappearance or at least inconvenience, these data will be provided to the police and trusted contacts, and these data will be treated confidentially and only They will come out in case of an emergency.

Who does your solution serve? In what ways will the solution impact their lives?

Women in Mexico experience a clear deficiency in our social, political, and legal system. They belong to a group that from an early age is subjected to harassment, sexual abuse, and violence that can lead to the loss of their lives.

This work is focused on women and although it could be useful for women from all over the world, this is more focused on Mexico since Mexico is the cause of large numbers of harassment towards women, ending many lives every year.

Why try to do something to help women?

Day by day going out into the street is a matter of danger, of not knowing how you will return or if you will, women not only present problems in terms of physical aggression, but also psychological, economic, and labor, however, we focus on the aggressions that a woman lives on the street.

"name of the app" will help women to take care of each other, to try to eradicate disappearances and attacks, being an exclusive application for women it will become a safe place where we can be in contact and raise our voices together

How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?

My life experiences in this aspect are based on fear, the fear caused by the media, the fear caused by social networks, the fear of going out and not coming back, the fear of going out at night, of being alone with men, that they judge, exceed, make me feel bad.

Every day in the news or on networks you read at least once: a missing woman, 17-year-old dies, a young woman is harassed by her peers, etc.

This is not fair, I can't go out so late, I can't make plans that involve “ugly” places, and I can't go everywhere without the constant fear of whether I'll be able to return home safely later.

Thank God I have not experienced that recently and I hope it does not happen, but that it has not happened to me recently does not mean that I cannot understand what is happening, on the contrary, I can imagine the situations making me understand the seriousness of what is happening today in my country and in the world
