Livestock Hydroponic Fodder.
- Pre-Seed
Hydroponic fodder is livestock feed that's fresh in all seasons. Nutritious & very affordable thus reducing feed costs for farmers while ensuring superior nutrition and hydration of livestock. Well fed livestock give sustainable food sources (milk & meat) to communities and constant flow of income to the farmer.
My solution is introduction of hydroponic fodder to farmers. Hydroponic fodder is fodder grown in a medium without soil; just a solution of water & required nutrients for the fodder to grow. This type of fodder minimises losses as animal feeds on the whole plant ( leaves to the roots). It is very affordable compared to commercial feeds and increases milk, meat & egg production as livestock is able to get fresh feed all year round.
Food production is increased also sustainable food production for urban communities is increased.
The growth of this type of fodder requires less space. If growth of the hydroponic fodder is scaled, food production will be at its peak and death of animals due to drought will be an issue of the past. Urban communities will have a reliable supply of meat, milk and eggs and inflation rates during dry seasons in developing countries like my Kenya will be unheard of. Farmers will get more income with very minimal input costs.
My solution solves the problem of unsustainable food production in urban communities caused by unproper feeding of livestock and dry or famine seasons within the year.
Very few farmers have embraced the idea of hydroponic fodder in my country and have enjoyed benefits such as cut costs of feed by choosing it and their livestock have grown healthier and produced more.
My solution will enhance meat, milk and egg production from livestock and increase food supply for urban communities. Farmers will benefit greatly from this solution as they will reap much more from very little input costs.
It will be deployed to farmers by holding training seminars to educate them on hydroponic fodder & equipping them with skills of growing hydroponic fodder.
Ensure more than half have us set up hydroponic units for them. - 50 farmers educated & trained in growing hydroponic fodder.

My solution .. Hydroponic fodder is unique. It does not require soil medium for growth, just solution of water and necessary nutrients for fodder growth.
This fodder can feed all of farmers livestock: cows, goats, sheep, poultry.
Hydroponic fodder has zero losses as livestock eats it all up..leaves to roots.
The use of hydroponic fodder technology is human centered as its aim is to ensure sustainable food production for urban communities in all seasons. Increase in food production will meet the food demand of the people as well as increase income for the farmers.
Seminars will be held in different towns to educate the farmers on the new agricultural technology of hydroponic fodder and training done thereafter.

Initial capital funding from interested investors and growth and scaling of solution funded by profits from installation of hydroponic units and training of farmers to grow hydroponic fodder.
The factors limiting ability of solution to succeed are:
a) Availability of initial capital to pilot the project.
b) Availability of mentors to look up to for advice on running the project.

By becoming a solver, I would like to ensure farmers know of a better technology of getting good and fresh feed for their livestock, meet the food (meat, milk, eggs) demand in the urban community and have farmers go home with a better income.
I would also be honoured to mentored by change makers with great expertise in the hydroponic fodder technology.
