Building pathways for parental civic engagement by providing childcare at public meetings

Research has demonstrated that We envision a future where parents can be civically engaged without having to choose between parenting and participation. Today, civic engagement takes as given two key ideas. First, that in person meetings are the best way to engage people in shaping their communities. Second, that people who want to show up for meetings about their community will find a way to show up. Research suggests that in person meetings generate more relevant feedback on issues and backs up civic leaders' preference for soliciting feedback this way. Research also highlights the disparities in attendance at civic meetings and points to resulting outcomes that may not be representative of the interests of the community as a whole. We aim to make it possible for every parent to participate in civic meetings by making sure their children are cared for during meetings, at no cost to them.
