Mobile SRHR scotch-cart hub
AGYW in rural communities continue to face challenges in accessing SRHR information, commodities and services. The challenges include distance to health facilities making them difficult to access, judgmental attitudes at the health facilities resulting in AGYW shying away from seeking services. Furthermore, dialogue on CSE remains a huge taboo in rural communities and there is no dialogue to guide AGYW on SRHR. SRHR services and commodities remain costly making them difficult to acquire. Economic challenges, infrastructure shortages and cultural norms continue to hinder full realisation of SRHR for rural AGYW.
The solution will provide Comprehensive Sexuality Education for AGYW, ease access to SRHR services and commodities, through ensuring that services and commodities reach out to AGYW while in their homes. The SRHR Mobile Scoth-Cart Hub will use digital banners to share information and include live display of videos on SRHR. This will contribute to improved knowledge on SRHR for AGYW, leading to AGYW making informed decisions about their sexual health. SRHR services and commodities will be readily available for utilization by girls reducing distance and cost barriers.
AGYW are having limited access to SRHR and services due to a lot of barriers that hinders them to visit clinics. AGYW are failing to visit clinics due to distance, negative attitude from nurses, lack of funds. Mobile scorch-cart hubs cart hubs can improve access to information and health services through confidentiality and privacy, information discernment. Accessing services will be now easier, and they will get knowledge through these mobile scotch cart in the comfort of their homes.
RNCYPT has been working with AGYW in rural communities to improve knowledge and access to SRH services and resources. The organisation established AGYW SRHR clubs in rural communities and pilot tested the SRHR Mobile Scotch-Cart Hube which impacted the lives of AGYW in rural communities through improving knowledge and ensuring easy access to services and resources. The organisation has partnered with local health institutions in the target communities to ensure there is collaboration in delivering SRHR information, commodities and services. RNCYPT has strong partnership with local leadership and has garnered their support previously in supporting programme for AGYW. With such community support, the project will yield intended results and impact the lives of AGYW.
- Prioritize infrastructure centered around young people to enhance young people’s access to SRH information, commodities and services.
- Zimbabwe
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model that is rolled out in one or more communities
We reach nearly 300 AGYW per month through the mobile scotch-cart hub.
The solution is a scale up of the already tested solution to improve access to SRHR information, commodities and services. Initially it did not include any technology aspect but has been improved to include digital information sharing and video screening on SRHR related issues for AGYW. The solution due to its nature of being community based and led by AGYW, generates interest from the AGYW themselves but also community members and leaders; creating an environment to have dialogue on SRHR with communities to address certain myths and misconceptions and further cultural norms and practices that inhibit access to SRHR for AGYW. The solution has potential of influencing SRHR service providers to come forth and reach out to marginalised AGYW.
Our impact centres mostly around ensuring AGYW and young people have a voice to influence decision making at different levels, contributing to developmental discourse. On SRHR the organisation goal is to ensure children and young people have access to comprehensive SRHR information, have access to friendly, context appropriate SRHR commodities and resources and are able to make informed decisions on the sexual health and reproductive. RNCYPT is empowering children and young people to be active citizens and contribute to developmental process, being agents of change and advocates of their rights. The organisation will continuously create platforms for children and young people to engage with policy makers and different levels and demand access to their rights. The organisation will mobilise children and young people to champion and lead changes in their communities towards realisation of their rights, including participation in laws and policy reform, participation in budgetary process and engaging in international advocacy process such as CEDAW reporting process, UPR, Child rights reporting for both the African Charter and Convention of the Rights of the Child.
Our theory of change is based on the below three stages.
1. Improve knowledge and understanding among children and young people on all their rights inclusive of SRHR; and empower them to demand access to their rights will lead to.
2. Recognition of children and young people rights, and exercise of their rights; through creating and enabling environment at national and local level; enacting or reviewing laws and policies to support children and young people rights; and finally earmarking resources to advance the rights of children and young people, leading to
3. improved access to children and young people rights, resulting in positive development in the lives of children and young people.
