Memoria (Memorize It)
Playing is common to children of all ages all over the world, educated or uneducated. They would naturally prefer playing to studying. But if studying is fun, it will become attractive. Research shows that the fastest way for children to learn is by constant memorization. This is the focus of Memoria.
Memoria is an AI Voice Assistant that helps children learn using Gamified Quiz. With her, learning is fun for young children. She helps them learn and master topics by repeatedly asking them questions from the quiz. Since She is a voice assistant, she can be used by autistic children who are slow to learning and it can also be used by blind children.
Memoria was built on Google Assistant so she is available on any device that has the Google app. We currently have users across different Countries globally. Scaling Memoria will help early childhood development across the world.
The Challenge we are focused on is early childhood development. Nigeria has 'largest number of children out-of-school' in the whole world. According to 2019 World population review (http://worldpopulationreview.c...), Nigeria's population is 200,963,599. Surprisingly, 150 million people own mobile phones. What this means is that our solution is available to all parents who own mobile phones and can be used by children anywhere in the country.
Having all these in mind, a parent that do not have money to send their children to School can enjoy the benefit of basic education for their children using their mobile phones. This way, the child has the foundation education before he/she is old enough to attend a public school. Public schools in Nigeria are only available to children of 6 years old and above. Before they reach that age, Memoria makes learning fun for them using gamified quiz. This will instill their interest in education so that they can be encouraged to move further with their education.
Our solution is meant to be used by children. Children make up a huge population in Nigeria and is rapidly increasing as there is One birth every 4 seconds in Nigeria. According to United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), there are over 13.2 million children out of school in Nigeria. We hope to tackle this issue by granting children in Nigeria access to handy education that is fun. Education in their pocket!
We are reaching this children through their parents and also through schools. This solution will instill their interest in education and help them learn by memorization which has proved to be the most effective way for young children to learn.
Memoria is an AI Voice Assistant that is built on Google Assistant Platform. She is a learning assistant for kids that encourages them to learn using gamified quiz. She is available on any device, phones (feature, android or iOS), laptop etc that has the Google App. Making it easy for anyone anywhere in the world to access the application. The application works with voice and text.
Memoria has in-built quizzes which the child is expected to answer. She applauds the child when they answer correctly and encourages them when they answer wrongly. Since it is a voice application, it can be used by Autistic Children and Blind Children. This makes it inclusive for the physically challenged kids.

- Prepare children for primary school through exploration and early literacy skills
- Decrease inequalities, stereotypes, and discrimination, from birth
- Prototype
- New application of an existing technology
Memoria is innovative because it is a new application to the use of the Google Assistant Platform and includes the physically challenged children.
Being that it is a Voice Assistant, it can be used by Autistic and Blind Children. It also works with text, so it can also be used by deaf kids. So basically all children are included in the fun learning.
Also accessibility is part of the values of Memoria. It was deliberate to build the solution on Google Assistant because of the use of core technology like Artificial Intelligence and IOT and also because the Google Application is widely used all over the world. So Memoria is available to all children all over the world granting them education in their pocket.
Memoria was built on Google Assistant. It involves the use of these technology: Deep Neural Network (DNN), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IOT) and Hybrid Emotion Inference Model (HEIM)

Being that Children in Nigeria can only start public schools at the age of 6years, our solution ensures that they can learn while they are at home before they get to the age of 6. For parents that can afford private schools, their children are sent to creche/pre-school at an early age of 1. But for Children from poor homes, their parents will have to make their children wait till they are 6 years old to attend a public school. Memoria ensures that these children are taught the foundations of childhood education at home before they are up to 6 years old so that they can compete effectively with their mates in the private schools - child inclusion.

Currently we are serving: 102 people with our prototype.
In one year: 10000
In five years: 1 million
Our direct users are children but, we reach them through their parents mostly.
We hope to onboard 10000 users in the next 1 year after building a concrete database of useful educational resources.
We would achieve this by:
Directed online marketing to parents
Partnership with Schools to reach more children
Partnership with Educational boards for verified content
Partnership with Telcos for our USSD Platform
We have not raised equity funding since inception, we only won a prize money of about $3500. We believe with more funds we can rapidly scale the business, grow marketing and hire the right technical talent to build the flagship product.
With the right partners, it will be easy to scale the solution across different Schools for larger impact.
We are currently bootstrapping, we put in our personal funds when necessary. We are currently still improving the prototype and building based on feedback from our users.
We are working on Partnerships. We have been in talks with MTN as they were the one that offered us the prize money we started with.

Memoria is an Impact Project of a startup CodeLn (www.codeLn.com). CodeLn is a tech recruitment platform that grants African Software Engineers access to their dream jobs. CodeLn helps to reduce the rate of unemployment of African Software Engineers.
Memoria is directed strictly at children, since the rate of tech and internet penetration is rising in Africa, we believe that the coming generation should be equipped with the right skills and Education to be able to adapt to the technological era. This will enable them to be employable and work-smart. During our research with CodeLn, we realized the need to impact the young generation with these skills/education in order to avoid unemployment and lack of supply of talent to handle future jobs.
There are two co-founders and 1 part-time staff.
I am the CEO and Co-founder of Memoria. I have a BSc. in Industrial Mathematics and a MSc. in Systems Engineering (Artificial Intelligence Major). I have worked in the tech and educational sectors in Nigeria and Ghana. I have taught children in primary and high schools and I have also lectured in a Polytechnic. I am passionate about helping children succeed in their academics.
Eyram Amedzor is the CTO and Co-founder of Memoria, he has an Engineering degree as well and he is more focused on the building of the platform. He is skilled in building IOT Projects and has a good understanding of most of Google's products.
Together we make a great team and we are solving a problem that we are both passionate about.
We are partnering with MTN a global Telecommunication company that is centered around helping us scale our Project.
The project is currently non-profit. We are focused on offering the solution free to parents.
For Schools, we offer a license fee of a minimum of $5000 per year depending on the number of students in the school.
We are currently seeking grants. We want to have a good number of active users on our platform before we start raising seed capital. To become self-sustainable, we would offer a license of the product to schools at a fee depending on the number of students.
This opportunity will allow us the chance to a wide network of expert whom we hope to get financial, technical and business advice from. We will also get the chance to meet with young innovators across the world to share ideas and possibly collaborate.
Also, in relation to scaling, we will be introducing our product to the US market. This will be a chance for us to validate the application of the product content in a market outside Africa.
- Business model
- Technology
- Talent or board members
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Media and speaking opportunities
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will be our number 1 partners. We will leverage this opportunity to get access to Academia and research works in relation to our product. We believe MIT will be of great help to us especially in relation to the content of our Product and also our approach to tackling this educational problem.
The AI Innovations Prize will be used to grow the Engineering team and also for Engineering research purposes. We will employ key engineers that have advance skills in recent technology especially NLP. With their skills, we will translate the current content to local languages. Such that the content chances based on preferred language selection and Geo location. Part of the feedback we gathered since we launched our prototype was that it will be nice to have the content in local languages, this way language will not be a barrier.
The prize will give us the chance to reach out to parents in Northern Nigeria which is known to have the highest birthrate in Nigeria. In this part of the country, the girls are not included in education. They are married off at an early age - 12 years old. And the girls are ignorant of the fact that they can make a better living if they are educated. We will be able to scale our solution to this part of Nigeria and create awareness.
We will also acquire skilled engineers in Natural Language Processing, so that the content for this region of Nigreria can be presented in their local languages. This way, we can reach out to a larger number of parents and encourage girl-child education.
The Innospark Venture Prize will grant us the chance to effectively and formerly source for educational data, reports, trends and research work that are useful to our product across different countries.
With sufficient data and content for the platform, we can reach more children across the Globe.
