What specific problem are you solving?
Erandi Aprende addresses three critical, interconnected problems across Latin America and Hispanic communities in the US:
1. Gender gap in STEM: Girls remain underrepresented in STEM, making up less than 30% of researchers worldwide (UNESCO, 2021). In Latin America, cultural stereotypes and lack of early exposure exacerbate the issue. This gap affects long-term economic equity—closing it could add $12 trillion to global GDP by 2030 (World Economic Forum).
2. Teacher support and classroom engagement: Traditional teaching methods are no longer effective. Teachers face heavy workloads, outdated tools, and struggle to personalize learning. A Brookings study (2022) reports declining student engagement, yet 86% of teachers believe tech can improve learning (OECD, 2020). However, they need accessible tools and ongoing support to implement them effectively.
3. Disconnected families: Many parents don’t know what their children are learning or how to support them. Only 38% of Hispanic parents feel confident helping with schoolwork (Gallup, 2023). This is worsened by a lack of culturally relevant STEM content in Spanish and limited visibility into student progress.
What is your solution?
Erandi Aprende is a bilingual app designed to spark curiosity and creativity in children ages 8–14 (with a focus on girls) through STEM activities that adapts to their context and materials available. Guided by Erandi, an AI “learning buddy,” kids explore science, technology, and creativity through discovery challenges, open ended-question and project based learning both in and outside the classroom.
Our app enables teachers to create trackable activities that align with class topics, academic standards, and instructional materials to make their lessons more engaging for everyone. Using natural language processing (NLP), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with human feedback methodologies, our AI adapts based on each child’s interests, level of understanding, and learning pace. It doesn’t just answer questions—it prompts critical thinking and exploration. Families receive real-time updates and recommendations to extend learning at home, while teachers get automated project evaluations, engagement analytics, and personalized activity suggestions to reduce workload and improve learning outcomes.
Built with Flutter, Node.js, the app can function with low connectivity and works across devices. We use AWS, Redis, and LLMs to support NLP, real-time data analysis, and safe, age-appropriate AI interactions. Our design is inclusive, culturally relevant, and COPPA-compliant, ensuring safety for young users.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Erandi Aprende directly serves Hispanic children ages 8–14, their teachers, and families—particularly in under-resourced communities across Mexico, Colombia, Panama, and high-density Hispanic districts in the US such as Harris County (TX), Dallas County (TX), Miami-Dade (FL), and San Diego County (CA). These children often face a lack of high-quality, culturally relevant STEM content in Spanish, limited digital tools that foster creativity and critical thinking, and low engagement in traditional classrooms.
Teachers struggle to personalize hands-on STEM instruction, track progress, integrate new educational technologies—including AI, especially in large classes or low-connectivity environments. Families are often disconnected from their children’s learning journeys, unsure how to support them outside of school.
Our app offers personalized STEM learning guided by a culturally relevant AI buddy, real-time analytics for teachers, and recommendations for families to extend learning at home. It reduces teacher workload, fosters student agency, and builds bridges between home and school.
By enhancing access to future-ready skills, Erandi Aprende empowers children to become confident, curious problem-solvers while also supporting the adults in their ecosystem with accessible, bilingual, and intuitive tools tailored to their needs.
