What specific problem are you solving?
We addresse the significant healthcare access gap faced by remote and underserved populations in Chad and similar regions. In these areas, access to quality healthcare is severely limited due to a lack of infrastructure, healthcare professionals, and financial resources. Approximately 60% of the population in rural areas faces challenges in reaching healthcare facilities, with a particular shortage of specialists in critical fields such as maternal and child health. This leads to preventable deaths and worsening health outcomes. Globally, over 3 billions people lack access to essential health services, particularly in low-income and rural communities. Telemedan aims to tackle these issues by providing affordable, solar-powered telemedicine kiosks, offering consultations, diagnostics, and following, even in the most remote locations. By leveraging technology and sustainable energy, we are bridging this gap, empowering local communities with tools to address their health needs and improving overall public health outcomes.
What is your solution?
Our solution Telemedan, is a solar-powered telemedicine kiosk designed to provide accessible healthcare in remote and underserved communities. It consists of solar-powered kiosks equipped with diagnostic tools like ECGs, stethoscopes, oximeters, and ultrasound probes. These kiosks enable patients to consult with doctors remotely through video calls, receive diagnostic tests, and access informations without the need to travel long distances to healthcare facilities. Our solution is powered by renewable energy, making it sustainable and ideal for regions with unreliable electricity. Additionally, Telemedan integrates a USSD-based mobile app, allowing people without internet access to schedule consultations and access health information. By combining solar technology and telemedicine, we offer a practical and scalable way to address healthcare disparities, particularly in rural areas. This model not only improves health outcomes but also empowers local healthcare workers with advanced diagnostic tools and training.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
We serve underserved populations in remote rural areas, particularly those without easy access to healthcare due to geographic, financial, or infrastructure barriers. These populations often face long travel distances to the nearest healthcare facility, limited access to trained medical professionals, and inadequate medical equipment. Telemedan directly impacts these communities by providing local, solar-powered telemedicine kiosks that offer remote consultations, diagnostics, and treatments. The kiosks ensure that people in hard-to-reach areas can receive timely medical advice and interventions, reducing the need for travel and the associated costs. The solution also empowers local healthcare workers with advanced diagnostic tools and training, improving the overall quality of care. By enabling consultations via video calls and providing essential diagnostic tests, Telemedan improves access to quality healthcare, enhances health outcomes, and promotes long-term well-being, especially in the face of scarce resources.
