What specific problem are you solving?
The use of AI has raised important questions about how we interact with technology today. This tool has caught up faster than we anticipated, and we must learn to use it responsibly and ethically. According to research from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, many teachers are unsure how to incorporate AI into their teaching practices, nor do they know how to guide students in using it consciously and cautiously. In some cases, students in several schools in Mexico have even been expelled for using AI in their assignments.
Teachers and schools fear that students will lose the ability to develop critical thinking if AI becomes their primary tool, which often leads to its prohibition. However, we believe it’s crucial to acknowledge that AI is here to stay and is already being used by students. Rather than avoiding it, we should focus on training educators and educational leaders in how to use it responsibly and critically, ensuring it complements their learning rather than replacing their ability to think independently. Using our learning-through-play methodology, we help them adapt to the evolving landscape of technology and foster responsible AI use in their classrooms.
What is your solution?
For the past 18 years, we’ve operated on a model that recognizes teachers as key players in the education system. Our solution builds on that foundation, offering a hybrid formation program to equip educators with foundational AI knowledge and practical tools.
This solution empowers them to make a positive impact in their classrooms and continue shaping and supporting future generations. Teachers engage with a play-reflect-act model to spark reflection on our relationship with technology and explore real-life examples of the use of AI.
Participants explore how data is used in AI systems, understanding the role of machine learning by analyzing practical examples, such as how data is classified. They engage with a digital platform, discover its resources, and use them to design their own lesson plans. As part of the training, they participate in an activity to align the content with their school’s curriculum, helping them take the first step toward implementation.
While the core lessons are delivered online, the program includes in-person support from trained members of the Education for Sharing team. This hybrid model ensures educators receive the flexibility benefits of virtual learning, and the hands-on guidance needed to bring AI concepts into their classrooms effectively.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution serves teachers and educational leaders in low-income communities of Veracruz, Mexico, a state where educational inequality remains a major challenge. According to CONEVAL (Mexico’s national council for the evaluation of social development policies), nearly 60% of Veracruz’s population lives in poverty, and the average level of schooling is just over 8 years. Many teachers in these areas face limited access to professional development opportunities, especially on emerging topics such as AI.
Despite these challenges, technology is already present in everyday life: over 91% of Mexicans aged 6 and older have access to a smartphone, television, or internet. This creates an urgent need to equip teachers with the tools to guide students in using AI critically and constructively.
Our program supports educators by building their confidence and skills to integrate AI into their teaching, with a strong emphasis on ethical use. Through hands-on play-based training, teachers will explore how AI works, its social implications, and how to adapt it to their curriculum. This will not only improve their teaching practices but also empower their students to use AI in informed, responsible ways.
By focusing on educators in underserved regions, we aim to reduce inequality and foster future-ready learning environments.
