What specific problem are you solving?
Despite advances in education and technology, too many learners still lack access to support that meets their unique needs. Traditional systems—both in the U.S. and globally—often fall short in providing equitable learning opportunities, leaving millions without the skills to thrive. This is especially true for the 1 in 5 individuals with learning and thinking differences (LTDs) like ADHD, dyslexia, or dyscalculia. Many struggle to access proper diagnosis, interventions, or resources. Families are overwhelmed, educators lack support, and financial, cultural, and linguistic barriers deepen these gaps—especially in under-resourced communities.
When learning environments aren’t designed inclusively, students are left behind. Students with disabilities face layered challenges, with even fewer tools or services that reflect their lived experiences. Real solutions remain out of reach for too many.
Understood is changing that. We’re using behavioral science, AI-powered tools, and expert-informed strategies to transform awareness into action. Our innovations, like the AI-powered Understood Assistant, deliver personalized, real-time guidance—whether or not someone has a formal diagnosis. We’re building a future where every learner is supported. Our vision: to become the trusted, go-to destination that families and educators rely on for inclusive, accessible, and high-quality learning tools and resources.
What is your solution?
The AI-powered Understood Assistant is setting a new standard for equitable, context-aware design—bridging linguistic and technological barriers to make expert support available to all, with or without a formal diagnosis. It’s an AI-driven tool designed to provide personalized, real-time support for individuals with learning and thinking differences (LTDs). Using natural language processing and expert-vetted resources, it delivers tailored recommendations in both English and Spanish. This makes support more accessible for users for whom cultural and linguistic barriers create further inequities.
Our solution includes generative components like audio responses, user profiles, and notifications to enhance engagement and accessibility. The Understood Assistant dynamically interacts with users to uncover their unique challenges and offers actionable strategies in an intuitive, natural language format. Future iterations will refine recommendations over time, creating a “personalized playlist” of support based on user interactions. Also, by integrating with partner ecosystems, the Understood Assistant extends its reach, embedding trusted resources directly into platforms that also serve neurodivergent audiences. This ensures that more individuals, families, and educators can access credible, practical guidance, regardless of their prior knowledge or financial resources.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
The AI-powered Understood Assistant supports individuals with learning and thinking differences (LTDs) such as ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia, across all gender, ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic groups, along with their families, caregiver, and educators. Many users struggle to find credible, relevant information, or actionable guidance adapted to their circumstances. Users often don’t know what resources to seek or the terminology. Or they simply cannot afford diagnosis and interventions. The assistant is free and accessible to all, with or without diagnosis, eliminating financial barriers to accessing support.
With a commitment to culturally responsive support and multilingual access, we are also equipped to serve multilingual learners, with all content available in English and Spanish to start. Simplified language and our integration of voice capabilities into the tool directly support our commitment to accessibility and equity by further reducing barriers for diverse groups. By allowing users to speak their questions and hear responses, we’re providing an essential alternative for users who may face challenges with written communication due to language barriers, typing difficulties, or literacy levels.
We strive to enhance engagement and drive better learning outcomes for individuals with LTDs—while supporting the success of all learners.
