What specific problem are you solving?
At Detoxyfi, we’re solving the global crisis of access to safe, affordable drinking water, a challenge affecting 2.2 billion people worldwide (WHO, 2023). In low-income communities, remote regions, and humanitarian crisis zones, clean water is not just a health issue—it’s a barrier to economic stability, education, and resilience. Current solutions are failing the most vulnerable. Reverse osmosis systems are expensive, require electricity, and waste more water than they purify. Bottled water, often used in disaster relief, is unsustainable—120 liters of water requires carrying over 60kg of plastic. And in many regions, waterborne illnesses are still among the leading causes of preventable death and lost productivity. Our solution is designed for global deployment, especially in communities with limited infrastructure. A biodegradable water filter made from waste sapwood, it’s lightweight (300g), requires no electricity, and costs just $5—10x cheaper than most alternatives. One cartridge delivers around 100-150 liters of clean water, removing 99.99% of microbial contamination.
What is your solution?
Jal Suraksha is our innovative water purification solution—a biodegradable, portable filter made from repurposed pine sapwood. It leverages nature’s design by using the unique cellular structure of sapwood to naturally trap bacteria, viruses, and protozoa as water flows through. Enhanced with activated charcoal and eco-friendly nanoparticles, it improves taste and odor while operating entirely without electricity or chemicals. Simply pour water into a reusable, lightweight bag and let gravity do the work; the filter then purifies between 100 to 150 liters of water before it reaches its capacity and stops functioning, ensuring safety. Weighing just 300 grams, Jal Suraksha is designed for ease-of-use and rapid deployment, making it ideal for remote areas, disaster zones, and resource-constrained environments. This cost-effective and scalable solution provides a sustainable alternative to traditional, energy-intensive water purification methods, ensuring that safe, clean drinking water is accessible to all.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution, Jal Suraksha, is tailored to serve underserved populations globally, including low-income households in rural and urban slums, disaster-affected communities, and defense personnel operating in remote areas. In many regions, millions lack access to safe drinking water due to unreliable infrastructure, high costs, or contamination. These communities often depend on expensive bottled water or inefficient systems that waste water and energy, resulting in significant health risks and economic burdens. By offering a biodegradable, portable water filter that purifies 100–150 liters per cartridge without electricity, our solution directly meets the needs of those living in water-scarce and emergency environments. It significantly reduces waterborne diseases, saves households money, and alleviates the logistical challenges faced by soldiers and relief workers during crises. Ultimately, Jal Suraksha empowers these individuals by providing immediate, reliable access to clean water, improving public health, and enhancing economic resilience. With the potential to impact millions globally, our solution transforms not only how water is purified, but also the overall quality of life for communities that have long been marginalized.
