What specific problem are you solving?
COMESO is addressing the critical issue of financial barriers to healthcare access in low-income countries, particularly for families relying on remittances from relatives abroad. Globally, half the world's population lacks access to essential health services, and over 2 billion people experience financial hardship due to out-of-pocket healthcare costs (WHO, 2023). In Ghana, for instance, 60% of health expenditures are paid out-of-pocket, leading many to delay or forgo necessary treatment, exacerbating preventable diseases and mortality rates.
A major challenge is that remittances—totaling over $100 billion annually to Africa—are often used for non-health-related expenses, leaving families vulnerable in times of medical emergencies. Lack of transparency, control, and efficiency in traditional money transfers contributes to misallocated funds and limited healthcare access. Additionally, trust in digital health financing solutions remains low, further limiting adoption.
COMESO directly tackles these issues by providing healthcare-specific financial support through secure, purpose-driven digital health vouchers, ensuring that funds sent by diaspora members are exclusively used for medical care. Our solution empowers families to access timely and quality healthcare while strengthening healthcare infrastructure and financial inclusion.
What is your solution?
Solution Description:
COMESO is a tech-enabled healthcare payment platform that allows diaspora members to send purpose-driven digital health vouchers to their families in low-income countries. Unlike traditional payments, COMESO ensures that funds are exclusively used for medical care by directly paying healthcare providers upon voucher redemption.
How It Works:
Voucher Purchase – Senders buy vouchers via COMESO’s web or mobile platform, linked to the recipient’s mobile number.
Digital Delivery – The recipient receives a secure code via SMS or app, redeemable only at approved pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals.
Healthcare Access – The recipient uses the voucher to pay for consultations, medications, and treatments at partnered facilities.
POS System for Providers – Healthcare institutions receive a COMESO POS system after a Know Your Business (KYB) verification process.
Direct Payout to Providers – Once a voucher is redeemed, COMESO transfers funds directly to the healthcare provider, ensuring transparency.
Technology Stack:
Web & Mobile Platform
POS System for Providers
Payment Integration with Paystack & Local Banks
COMESO ensures secure, transparent, and purpose-driven healthcare payments, promoting financial inclusion and health equity.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
COMESO serves diaspora communities who financially support their families in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa. These individuals regularly send payments to cover essential needs, including healthcare, but lack transparency and control over how the money is used. Many recipients struggle with high out-of-pocket healthcare costs, leading to delayed or missed treatments and worsening health conditions.
Who We Serve:
Diaspora Senders – Individuals abroad who want to ensure their financial support is used specifically for healthcare.
Recipients in Low-Income Communities – Families who face barriers to accessing affordable, quality medical care due to financial constraints.
Healthcare Providers – Hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies that struggle with late payments and financial instability due to informal, unpredictable healthcare financing.
Impact on Their Lives:
Ensures Medical Access – Families can seek timely consultations, medications, and treatments without financial uncertainty.
Financial Transparency & Security – Senders have full control over their contributions, eliminating fund misallocation.
Supports Healthcare Providers – Direct payments to institutions improve cash flow, ensuring sustainable, high-quality services.
By bridging the gap between diaspora funding and healthcare services, COMESO fosters better health outcomes, financial inclusion, and economic stability.
