What specific problem are you solving?
Due to these reasons, the education system in Sierra Leone is in a very poor shape. For instance, more than 70% of the population is illiterate and less than 10% of schools are equipped with computers or internet. In the rural areas, many children are unable to get a good education. This is due to extreme poverty, gender related issues and poor facilities. The situation is only likely to worsen with climate change. Winds have destroyed schools and the children have been unable to concentrate in class. On a global level, about 250 million children cannot go to school. Moreover, according to experts, by 2030, more than 200 million jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa will need digital competencies. The future belongs to the digital generation, and if we don’t help those children, millions of them will be denied a chance to overcome the barriers and participate in a world where technology is the backbone of almost everything.
What is your solution?
EduCube is a solar-powered learning center that aims to help people who don’t have easy access to tech-based education. These hubs are made from old shipping containers. They can handle tough weather, so students can learn without interruptions. Inside, you’ll find computers, internet access, STEM labs, and offline learning materials. It’s a fun and engaging way for students, especially girls, to learn. EduCube uses AI to offer personalized lessons in many languages. This helps bridge the gap in rural schools. The hubs run on solar energy, making them a great, eco-friendly option for places that lack reliable power. EduCube also teaches digital skills, coding, and life skills. This helps students prepare for today’s job market. If you want to see more, check out our demo video: https://youtu.be/oSCuT6UTZ1I.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
EduCube serves students, especially girls, in underserved rural communities where access to quality education and digital tools is severely limited. In Sierra Leone, over 70% of the population is digitally illiterate, and less than 10% of schools have computers or internet connectivity. Girls face additional barriers due to early marriages, cultural norms, and economic hardships, forcing many out of school. EduCube provides safe, inclusive, and technology-driven learning environments by equipping students with digital literacy, STEM education, and life skills training. These hubs ensure continuous education even in extreme weather conditions, addressing school disruptions caused by windstorms and climate-related disasters. By integrating interactive learning tools, AI-driven personalized content, and solar-powered infrastructure, EduCube bridges the digital divide, empowers students with 21st-century skills, and prepares them for future careers in a technology-driven world.
