What specific problem are you solving?
Africa faces 8 million avoidable deaths annually partly due to financial barriers to accessing timely healthcare. In Ghana, over 40% of healthcare expenses are paid out-of-pocket, making care unaffordable for many. While remittances and family support are common ways to fund medical costs, studies show that misuse and diversion of funds frequently result in delayed treatment and worsened health outcomes.
In rural areas, where 50% of Ghanaians seek care, financial insecurity prevents early diagnosis and treatment, worsening maternal and child health indicators. Nearly 12 million Ghanaians lack health insurance coverage, exposing them to catastrophic medical expenses.
Additionally, healthcare providers struggle with delayed payments, impacting their ability to deliver quality care. Pharmacies and diagnostic centres, which play a key role in treatment, also suffer due to patients’ inability to pay upfront.
CareVoucher eliminates financial delays and fund misuse by ensuring secure, purpose-driven healthcare financing. This makes healthcare more accessible and transparent, especially for underserved communities.
What is your solution?
CareVoucher is a purpose-driven digital voucher system that ensures money set aside for healthcare is used only for medical expenses. It helps patients access care without financial delays while providing healthcare providers with a transparent, reliable payment system.
How It Works:
* Patients or caregivers purchase CareVouchers via USSD using mobile money, which over 80% of Ghanaian adults use.
* Healthcare providers accept CareVouchers as payment for services, medications, and diagnostics.
* Providers track redemptions and payouts through a web dashboard, ensuring timely settlements and accountability.
Why It Works:
* High Mobile Money Penetration: Ghana has over 50 million registered mobile money accounts, making CareVoucher accessible to almost everyone, even in rural areas.
* USSD Accessibility: Works on feature phones and smartphones, removing internet barriers.
* Mobile Money Integration: Ensures cashless, secure transactions with instant verification.
* Real-Time Tracking: The provider dashboard offers visibility into redemptions and payouts.
