What specific problem are you solving?
According to the WHO, half the world lacks access to essential health services, and TheLancet reports that 47% of the global population has little or no access to diagnostics. Global health access is a complex issue, and access to medical devices is just one part of the puzzle.
The core issue isn’t lack of innovation—life-saving medtech already exists. The problem is that these devices are concentrated in wealthy countries and aren’t reaching the health systems that need them most, such as those in LatAm. Commercializing medical devices internationally is slow, fragmented, and expensive.
Several factors contribute to this: finding trusted distributors is difficult, local market knowledge is costly, and regulations vary by country. As a result, many small and mid-sized medtech companies—the ones driving the most innovation—avoid entering markets like LatAm, where their products could have the most impact.
At Medikana, we believe the true barrier is the lack of infrastructure and transparency in global medtech commercialization. That’s the problem we’re solving—starting in LatAm. By streamlining distribution, regulatory, and market access, we unlock new opportunities for manufacturers and help deliver life-saving technologies to the regions that need them most.
What is your solution?
Medikana is a platform that streamlines and automates international medical device commercialization, starting with Latin America. We make it easy for medical device manufacturers to expand into new markets, while giving local distributors access to innovative products—ultimately improving patient access to life-saving devices and diagnostics.
Our platform supports manufacturers through every step of the commercialization process. We connect them with pre-vetted local distributors, provide real-time regulatory intelligence for navigating complex systems, and help manage ongoing relationships. What typically takes 1–2 years can be achieved in just a few months using Medikana.
We combine human expertise with AI-enabled tools to create a scalable, tech-enabled approach to global market entry—essentially becoming an extension of a manufacturer’s commercial team. Instead of needing a separate partner in each country, manufacturers can work with us across the entire Latin American region, allowing their innovations to reach doctors and patients that were previously out of reach.
To date, we’ve built a network of over 200 vetted distributors across 18 LATAM markets and manage 15 different manufacturer product lines. We’ve already placed more than 3,000 devices, and the goal is to go global.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
medikana positively impacts many players in the healthcare ecosystem.
For medical device manufacturers, we offer a faster, lower-risk pathway for expanding to new markets and unlocking new sources of revenue by partnering with trusted partners. These companies have commercial ready technologies but lack the local knowledge or bandwidth to expand internationally, especially for complex regions like LatAm.
For local distributors who are constantly searching for new products to differentiate themselves and strengthen their portfolios, we provide access to pre-vetted innovative devices that they would otherwise not have access to. We also help them navigate product training and onboarding, speeding up commercialization.
The greatest impact is on patients and healthcare systems in underserved regions in LatAm. Many hospitals continue to rely on outdated devices and diagnostics for patients. By removing barriers in commercialization, we help life-saving innovation reach patients that need them most.
At medikana, we aim to create systemic change and positively affect healthcare systems. We've already placed more than 3000 devices in LatAm that have improved the lives of patients. We aim to bridge the healthcare gap and unlock access to medical innovation worldwide, starting with LatAm.
