What specific problem are you solving?
In rural Nepal, particularly in Karnali Province, people face significant barriers in accessing quality healthcare due to geographic isolation and fragmented systems. Municipal and district hospitals operate in storage tower, leading to poor communication, delayed diagnoses, and incomplete health records. This lack of integration delays effective referrals, treatment continuity, and data-driven decision-making, leaving vulnerable populations underserved.
NHN solution Digital Health for Transforming Healthcare in Karnali's Rural Communities, aims to address these challenges by implementing an integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. By connecting municipal and district hospitals, the project will ensure quality care, reduce medical errors, and enhance healthcare delivery. The solution will also integrate with Nepal’s HMIS and DHIS2 system and leverage data visualization tools like Power BI to empower healthcare workers with actionable insights for better decision-making.
This digital transformation will make quality healthcare more accessible to remote communities, ensuring continuity of care and improving health outcomes. By bridging the gap between isolated healthcare facilities, the project aims to create a more efficient, coordinated, and equitable healthcare system for Karnali’s underserved populations. Through technology, solution will bring quality care to those who need it most, transforming lives and building a healthier future for rural Nepal.
What is your solution?
Nyaya Health Nepal will develop a Digital Health Solution to transform healthcare in rural communities using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) System by integrating data across municipal and district hospital of Karnali. NHN ensures continuity of care, reduces inefficiencies, and supports timely decision-making for accurate diagnoses and effective treatments. This solution digitizes patient health records, allowing healthcare providers in remote areas to access, update, and share patient information. The solution operates through a centralized digital platform where health records are securely stored and accessible to authorized healthcare workers. The system utilizes cloud-based technology to ensure accessibility, even in areas with limited infrastructure. Healthcare providers can input patient data, track medical histories, and coordinate care across facilities, improving outcomes for vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly. By addressing the lack of accessible and equitable healthcare in Karnali, NHN’s solution bridges the gap between isolated healthcare facilities. It leverages technology to create a more efficient, coordinated, and equitable healthcare system, ultimately enhancing health outcomes. This solution aligns with global efforts to strengthen health systems through digital transformation, ensuring quality care reaches those who need it most and transforming lives in rural Nepal.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Nyaya Health Nepal’s solution aims to transform healthcare delivery in Karnali’s rural areas by upgrading existing Electronic Health Record (EHR) system that connects municipal and district hospitals of rural Nepal. This system digitizes patient records, facilitating smooth access, updates, and sharing of health information across healthcare facilities. By replacing the fragmented paper-based system with a centralized cloud-based platform, the solution ensures continuity of care, reduces inefficiencies, and enhances clinical decision-making. It specifically benefits underserved groups, such as women, children, and the elderly, who often face significant barriers to healthcare due to geographic isolation and limited resources. The solution improves care coordination, reduces diagnostic errors, and enables timely interventions. Healthcare providers can efficiently track patient histories, collaborate between facilities, and offer more accurate treatments, even in regions with limited infrastructure. The system also supports healthcare staff by restructuring workflows and enabling data-driven decision-making, which ultimately strengthens the overall healthcare system. This digital transformation addresses healthcare access gaps in Karnali, ensuring equitable, high-quality care for underserved populations. It not only improves health outcomes but also contributes to global efforts to build resilient health systems, making healthcare more accessible to those in need, particularly in rural areas of Nepal.
