What specific problem are you solving?
LisheBoost tackles malnutrition and inadequate early childhood development (ECD) in Tanzania, where 31.8% of children under five are stunted. In certain areas like Mara, Tabora and Kigoma, poverty exceeds 40%, exacerbating food insecurity and limiting access to healthcare and education for over 10,000 children. Being poor makes it hard to get healthy food, learn, and see doctors. Children in these regions do not get the nutrition or help they need to grow. LisheBoost wants to fix this by helping families get good food, learn about healthy eating, and give their children the right support to grow strong and smart.
What is your solution?
LisheBoost is a mobile health (mHealth) platform that provides nutrition education and early childhood development support to caregivers in Tanzania. Using a smartphone app called Envision, LisheBoost delivers personalized guidance, tracks developmental milestones, and offers remote healthcare access, empowering caregivers with the knowledge and tools to improve their children's health and development. By doing this, it helps bridge the gap in traditional healthcare services. The project works in areas where help is needed most, turning families into leaders of their own health and well-being.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
LisheBoost directly targets children under the age of five in Tanzania, particularly those in the underserved regions of Mara, Tabora, Kigoma and Simiyu. These regions are home to some of the country's most vulnerable populations, where poverty and limited access to essential services exacerbate the challenges of malnutrition and hinder early childhood development.
Children in these areas often lack access to nutritious food, healthcare, and educational opportunities, leading to high rates of stunting and developmental delays. Caregivers, predominantly women, frequently lack the necessary knowledge and resources to provide adequate nutrition and support for their children.
This is further compounded by systemic issues such as gender inequality and inadequate infrastructure, which limit women's mobility and access to health services. LisheBoost addresses these needs by providing personalized guidance, tracking developmental milestones, and offering remote healthcare access, empowering caregivers to improve their children's health and development.
