What specific problem are you solving?
Paybash’s founders encountered significant barriers to traditional banking due to a lack of credit history and discovered ROSCAs (rotating savings and credit associations) as an effective community-based saving solution.
Financial exclusion is a global issue, impacting 1.4 billion adults, or 17% of the world's adult population. In the United States alone, 45 million people are underbanked, and 28 million lack credit scores, primarily affecting immigrants, students, and low-income individuals. These groups often live paycheck to paycheck, lack savings and credit scores, rely on predatory financial service providers or informal financial networks with friends and family and are overlooked by traditional banking services.
Key challenges include the limitations of ROSCAs, which, despite their popularity, suffer from fraud, miscommunication, and poor management. Additionally, most people need to transfer money to another person at some point—whether it's to split group expenses, contribute to family obligations, fund community projects, or for other reasons. Unfortunately, transferring money can become expensive quickly, especially for international transfers, with fees as high as 6%.
We developed the Paybash concept based on our personal experiences, and it is designed to address specific consumer pain points with existing, traditional personal finance.
