What specific problem are you solving?
According to a 2023 WHO report, Nigeria currently ranks as the country with the second highest number of maternal deaths globally. The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Nigeria is 1,047 deaths per 100,000 live births, most of which could be prevented with timely access to life-saving medications.
A major driver of this crisis is the fragmented and inefficient maternal health supply chain, which routinely fails to deliver time-sensitive commodities such as oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, prenatal supplements, delivery kits, and antibiotics, to the last mile. Challenges include poor demand forecasting, weak cold chain infrastructure, inadequate real-time inventory systems, limited financing, and poor coordination between public and private actors.
In rural areas, women travel long distances to facilities, only to face stockouts or unaffordable prices. In January, the USAID global health funding freeze disrupted nearly 40% of maternal health aid in Sub-Saharan Africa, with projections of 4.2 million unintended pregnancies and 8,340 maternal deaths within just three months.
Our solution seeks to rebuild trust and strengthen maternal and reproductive health systems by using technology to make the SMRH supply chain more responsive, so essential products consistently reach the women who need them because no woman should die giving life.
What is your solution?
Launched in 2023, the Medtracka mobile app is Nigeria’s first women-centric e-pharmacy designed to provide swift, affordable, and reliable access to essential sexual, maternal, and reproductive health (SMRH) products.
Our solution empowers women, girls, midwives, and maternal clinics especially in underserved communities, by delivering life-saving products like contraceptives, sanitary pads, and delivery birth kits directly to their doorsteps in record time.
Through the app, women and girls can access over 1,000 quality-assured SMRH products, schedule discreet teleconsultations with licensed gynecologists, and join peer-support groups for shared experiences, guidance, and confidence in managing their maternal and reproductive health.
On the back-end, we operate an AI-powered SaaS inventory system that utilizes trained machine learning models to track real-time inventory, forecast demand, and automate procurement processes. This ensures product availability, reduces stockouts, curbs counterfeiting, and keeps prices stable and affordable for low-income users.
To enable last-mile delivery in an eco-friendly way, we are piloting a fleet of electric bikes (e-bikes) that reduce carbon emissions and speed up access in hard-to-reach, climate-vulnerable communities.
Medtracka integrates AI technology, mobile health, and green logistics to create a scalable, user-centered healthcare delivery platform, bridging the healthcare access gap for women.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Medtracka serves young and middle-aged women and girls aged 15 to 45, with a focus on underserved, flood-prone, oil-producing communities in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. These women face geographic isolation, economic hardship, and gender inequalities that limit their access to sexual, maternal, and reproductive health (SMRH) services.
Climate change-induced flooding often cuts off access to healthcare submerging clinics, blocking roads, and emptying pharmacy shelves. Pregnant women struggle to access care, leading to preventable complications and maternal deaths. In recent times, this situation has been worsened by global funding cuts to maternal health, which have reduced the availability of contraceptives and clean delivery kits in Nigeria.
Medtracka addresses these gaps through a mobile platform that delivers over 1,000 essential SMRH products such as contraceptives, prenatal supplements, and birth kits straight to users’ doorsteps. Our AI-powered system ensures real-time inventory tracking and price stability, while users can access certified gynecologists via telehealth and join peer-support communities.
By removing physical and systemic barriers, Medtracka empowers women to take charge of their health, reduce unplanned pregnancies, and improve maternal outcomes, helping break the cycle of poverty and promoting gender equity in Nigeria’s most climate-vulnerable regions.
