What specific problem are you solving?
Adolescent girls in India face significant barriers to education and economic independence. The female literacy rate is 65.46%, far below the male rate of 82.14%. Nearly 48% of girls aged 15–24 are not in education, employment, or training, compared to 14% of boys. In rural India, only 19.7% of women participate in the labor force, with poverty, cultural norms, and early marriage contributing to high dropout rates and limited job opportunities. Nomi Network addresses these challenges by digitizing its adolescent girls' empowerment curriculum, transitioning from paper-based materials to a digital learning management system (LMS). This scalable solution will expand educational access, effectively train trainers, and provide readily available resources. However, unreliable internet connectivity in remote areas necessitates offline-first digital tools for accessibility. By securing funding to develop this LMS, Nomi Network will equip at-risk girls with key life skills and readiness for careers, fostering economic independence and reducing vulnerability to exploitation. This initiative contributes to closing gender gaps in education and employment, empowering adolescent girls to break cycles of poverty and exploitation through sustainable, skill-based learning opportunities.
What is your solution?
Nomi Aspire Curriculum includes 52 sessions across 5 modules. The LMS will offer a combination of methods such as discussions, presentations, games, quizzes, role plays, reflection activities, and art-based activities to assist adolescent girls in developing competencies in Self-Management, Emotional Wellbeing, Interpersonal Skills, Rights and Safety, Healthy Living, Thinking Skills, Citizenship Skills, and Future Readiness Skills. Trainers will have access to a self-learning module and a hub to safely access resources such as child laws, child helpline numbers, processes and procedures to file complaints about abuse or violations experienced by the girls. An observation tool will allow trainers to track the progress of learners, including knowledge, skills and attitude components. CloodOn is a customizable cloud-based learning platform that users can access through unique logins. The interface is customized for trainers and learners to access relevant and appropriate content. The app can be used on android phones, low bandwidth, making it easy to use in remote areas with limited access to the internet. The trainers do not carry physical materials beyond their phone or laptop to deliver content in any location or setting. Content is available in multiple languages and a one stop system to record assessments.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Thousands of adolescent girls live in the remotest areas of India. These girls often are removed from schools by their families. AGEP functions as a regular activity girls in these remote areas can engage in. Girls in the program often enroll back in school, and parents delay marriage in support of girls pursuing vocational training to access careers and income. Our program builds an understanding of human trafficking, including what it is, how to recognize and report it, and how to guard themselves and their peers against it. We encourage adolescent girls to continue their education and position themselves for promising careers by identifying and removing any barriers that stand in their way. The LMS will allow the girls to safely review and access life-saving resources, such as helpline numbers, how to connect to an adult who is safe, or how to report crime. It will help them address questions they may have when they face threatening situations, such as being approached for work or an online boyfriend encouraging them to run away. Girls will also learn how to access vocational training and education platforms, such as India's National Institute of Open Schooling.
