What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, 244 million children lack access to quality education, and over 617 million do not achieve basic competency development, Numeracy and Literacy (UNESCO). In Uganda, over 1.2 million children are out of school, and only 54% complete primary school. In the Acholi sub-region, where Wokober operates, the challenges are magnified by decades of conflict, with youth unemployment at 80% and poverty at 70% (UNPA 2023).
The core problem Wokober addresses is the lack of engaging, relevant, and personalized learning experiences in underserved schools, which leads to poor learning outcomes, early dropout, and limited life opportunities.
These communities face inadequate access to teaching and learning materials, underexposed teachers, and overwhelmingly large classrooms with a student-to-teacher ratio of 63:1, limiting learners’ opportunities to develop the creativity, practical skills, and problem-solving competencies needed to thrive in today’s dynamic world.
Our short-term outcome is to improve learner engagement and foundational competencies by equipping educators with AI-powered Learning Approach that delivers personalized, project-based learning experiences rooted in local innovation.
Our long-term goal is to nurture a generation of confident, innovative, entrepreneurial, and leadership-driven individuals who can break cycles of poverty, drive community transformation, and succeed in the 21st-century workforce.
What is your solution?
Wokoverse is an AI-powered learning platform that enables educators in underserved African schools to deliver personalized, project-based learning experiences tailored to diverse learner needs and local contexts.
The platform combines evidence-based Learning Approach of Wokober (WLA) inspired by the culture of making and innovation using recycled materials in low resource communities with teacher empowerment to enable learners gain key competences in creativity, practical hands-on skills, innovation and self-development.
The platform acts as a comprehensive teaching assistant, empowering educators to research content, assist learners in identifying personal/group projects, plan lessons, assess student performance, and track learner progress in real-time. With the generative AI engine, even underexposed teachers can create customized lesson plans, adapt delivery, and support multiple learners working at different paces.
Wokoverse provides data-driven insights to help identify struggling students and manage large classrooms effectively, addressing major learning gaps in underserved schools.
Its offline functionality ensures access in low-connectivity areas, making it ideal for rural or resource-constrained communities. As educators implement WLA through project-play, Wokoverse enables them to offer personalized guidance, foster engagement, and help every learner thrive.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Wokober focuses on improving learning outcomes for learners aged 3–19 across three stages; early years (3–7), primary (8–12), and secondary (13–19), in underserved, post-conflict communities of Northern Uganda, starting with the Acholi sub-region.
These learners face overcrowded classrooms (63:1 ratio), limited learning materials, under-trained teachers, and a rigid, exam-focused curriculum that stifles curiosity, creativity, and practical skill development. Many drop out or complete school without the competencies needed to navigate today’s dynamic world.
Wokoverse addresses this by turning abstract concepts into tangible experiences through hands-on, project-based learning rooted in toy-making, science, technology, arts, numeracy, and innovation. Learners engage in personal and group projects guided by facilitators that build creativity, problem-solving, and self-confidence. A built-in learner portfolio tracks growth and can support future learning or employment.
Educators, often underexposed and overwhelmed, benefit from Wokoverse’s generative AI tools that assist in research, personalized lesson planning, real-time assessments, and learner tracking. The platform provides data-driven insights to help teachers identify struggling learners and adapt delivery, even offline.
By combining local knowledge with AI, Wokoverse empowers learners and educators to co-create inclusive, relevant, and future-ready learning experiences that close gaps and unlock lifelong potential.
