What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, at least 65 million people are personally affected by long COVID. Symptoms may affect many different organs with varying degrees of severity. Similar post-viral syndromes have been observed in the aftermath of other pandemics including SARS, MERS, and influenza. As a consequence, an estimated 78 million patients worldwide have received a diagnosis of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), associated with significantly impaired quality of life. The combined impact of long COVID and ME/CFS has triggered a tidal wave of disability. When you consider the extended community who care for loved ones with these conditions, the physiological, social, and economic impact cannot be overstated.
In our modern healthcare landscape, patients with infection-associated chronic conditions often find themselves navigating a labyrinth of fragmented information, numerous specialist appointments, and limited treatment options. This project aims to ameliorate these challenges by creating a comprehensive resource directory focused on patients with complex chronic illnesses as well as their caregivers and providers.
What is your solution?
By providing centralized resources through a comprehensive patient resource platform, I hope to empower patients, inform healthcare providers, and improve outcomes for patient communities. The specific aims of this project are to:
1. Develop a comprehensive, user-friendly community resource directory for patients with complex chronic illnesses and their caregivers.
2. Provide resources focusing on emerging research, clinical presentation of complex chronic conditions, and established and emerging treatments.
3. Enable patient access to information about support services, clinical trials, appropriate providers, and potential treatment options to foster more informed patient communities.
4. Provide education to improve healthcare providers’ understanding of complex chronic illnesses and their management.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
The proposed project addresses a critical need for patients with infection-associated complex chronic illnesses such as long COVID, ME/CFS, dysautonomia, and fibromyalgia. These conditions often present significant challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and day-to-day management, leaving patients overwhelmed and underserved by modern healthcare systems. This project can significantly improve the quality of life for patients and their providers by providing the knowledge and resources necessary to navigate health challenges.
The comprehensive resource directory will provide a centralized, reliable source of relevant information for patients. Access to comprehensive information about conditions, potential treatments, and support resources can significantly empower patients to take an active role in their healthcare journey. Including information on patient communities and support groups will help combat the isolation often experienced by those with chronic illnesses.
